DS Game Releases Finally Slowing?

maximumzeromaximumzero I...wait, what?New Orleans, LARegistered User regular
edited January 2007 in Games and Technology
Back in 2006 we had some crazy DS releases. It seemed that every 2 weeks we had some blockbuster game that the forums fawned over and got rave reviews.

Now, is it just me, or has the DS game releases slowed a bit? It feels like whenever I walk into a store that has a large DS selection I can't quite pick out 10 games that I would want anymore, at the most 2.

Anyone else notice this?

Phoenix Wright 2 is on the way, along with Hotel Dusk and Izuna.

The DS has plenty of gems on the way. Consider this your time to save up.

Jesus fuck, that's almost a relief, I own so many DS games, most of which I have not had time to complete, and I have basically no money for more... and there are still so many games I've missed.
It's ridiculous that I own more DS games by far than almost any other console.

But you are right, I do seem to see less upcoming/new interesting DS games, unless I haven't been paying attention. Most of the games I want are from the past several months.

Granted I haven't played it, but from what I've seen I definitely wouldn't rank Izuma up there with 'surefire blockbusters' like DQ and phantom hourglass. It looks decent at best.

I wouldn't say it's a blockbuster. All I know is they sold me at 'Unemployed Ninja'.

My bank account wouldn't be able to handle it. In fact, it still can't. I'm so torn between Phoenix Wright 2 and Warioware: Smooth Moves.

The characters look pretty funny, to be sure, but the gameplay, for me at least, looks horribly uninteresting. Just balls-out boring.

The first few months of any year on any console are pretty dry, because they pump as much out by Christmas as possible.

It'll pick back up pretty soon.

of the announced that i know of, i am only looking forward to zelda and maybe returning to pokemon after a 10 year hiatus. Also, new Castlevania announcement please! (still playing PoR since getting it on release, but would be comforting to see another one).

I think it's in part of my PSP purchase this week, as I've been seeing what I missed on it over the year and a half.

I basically combed over EB's "DS > All" list and this is what I've come up with:

    DS Want List:
    Elite Beat Agents
    Pokemon Ranger
    Bomberman Land Touch
    Kirby: Squeak Squad
    Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
    Mario vs. DK 2
    Dragon Quest; Rocket Slime
    Mario Hoops 3-on-3
    Megaman ZX
    Super Mario 64

    When it's Released:
    Pokemon Diamond or Pearl
    Hotel Dusk: Room 215
    Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol
    Diddy Kong Racing
    Custom Robo Arena
    Meteos: Disney
    Rayman Raving Rabbids

Now you would say "But d00d, that's alot of games for you to say that you don't have anything left to pick up. True, but there's only truely 2 or 3 things on that list that I feel are must-haves. The rest are "If I absolutely can't find anything else" things.

It's not so much that releases are slowing I think, I just have almost 30 DS games, and when I look at the shelf in stores, all I see that I don't have is shovelware.

    Anyone find this as well?

If the DS releases are slowing down, it's mostly because of (1) the Wii and (2) the fact that it's right after the holiday season

I hope it's slowing down - we have 22 DS games, 6 GBA games, but yet every evening all I end up playing is AC:WW, True Swing and EBA. I'm doing a tradein today to (Hopefully) get Clubhouse.

Heh I am still grabbing crap that I missed as well, and I'm sporting about 20 games. Still haven't gotten Advance Wars DS, or any of the Castlevania series. I should be picking up FF3 this weekend thanks to a BB gift card, but then there's still Lost Magic, Contact and Scurge, which are all supposed to be good. Oh wait, never did get Super Mario Bros either.

Hell I'm still swamped, doomed indeed. :(

You could beat Max Payne 2 in six hours, and many, many games in under a day. That doesn't mean they're not AAA releases.

I'd be surprised by anyone who could beat either of the Phoenix Wright games in a single day.

And you don't ever really beat WarioWare games.

I beat Mario Kart Double Dash in a day worst game ever!!!

Lunar Knights comes out in February which looks like it could be really great. Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk in January. Custom Robo Arena is in March and Pokemon is April.
