Anyone use Quickbooks? Or other accounting software
My dad needs some new accounting software, and I've heard good stuff about Quickbooks from this forum before. But there's one specific thing that he needs the software to do that I can't really find info about online.
So he uses MS Money or something now that isn't supported any longer, and it allows him to copy content from his online banking (incoming payments from people, usually) and then add a category to those payments, like "tax exempt" or "business" "personal" "insurance" and so on. He can add multiple categories to these line items. The reason he likes that is because at the end of the year he can ask the program to run a report on everything that has the category "business" and so on, and it works out well for his reporting purposes, taxes and so on.
Does anyone therefore know:
1. Can quickbooks take pastes (or imports of CSV) from online banking no problems?
2. Does quickbooks allow multiple categories to be added to each/every line item, and the categories can be named by the user and later reported on?
With the latest versions(2010) you need quickbooks pro to import transactions I believe, each transaction can be split into multiple categories but I don't think a single transaction amount can be two categories. You can make custom categories, rename them and view statistics for each category. QB is the standard, it's the easiest to get support for if that's an issue.
Thank you very much, very interesting that one trans can't have multiple types. I'll check with him how crucial that is and get a local price for the pro version.
