I got two copies of Modern Warfare 2 for Christmas. Neither are open. If I bring it to a Gamestop or some such, what are the odds they let me just exchange it for another game? Am I going to have to deal with the ripoff buy-back price, even though the thing is unopened?

I don't have a receipt, obviously.

    Ask where it was purchased. return there for store credit.

    I'm in the same boat, except was stupid and forgot about the return three months ago.

    Looks like Target is the best bet.

    just a tip, make sure its clear you don't want cash back, that you just want to exchange it for more merchandise at their store. So it doesn't look so much like you've stole it and are trying to return it for crack money.

    you shouldn't really do this but

    I went to walmart with a game that was a gift, and I told them I bought it at another walmart in another province, and they were very happy to give me full store credit. I just picked another game. Game was bought at EB, I think, I just scratched off the tag.

    That's basically been said already but yeah. As of like, a year ago? Works.

    Gamestop will take UNOPENED games back until Jan 3rd I think. I asked specifically when I was buying PS3 games for a friend. Without a receipt I don't know what they'll do, but for Christmas they said they'd do a straight exchange. I'd say call them.

    I'd advise not taking the "used" price (if they offer) - you'll get much better value selling it as a sealed copy on ebay or half.com.

    From GS employee/friend: " if you dont have the receipt it is up to the manager on duty for an exhchange or store credit on an edge card. you will NOT be getting money back. printed policy and verbally confirmed at time of purchase that reciept is necessary"

    I have a receipt. For Amazon. Who offer 80% as credit after 30 days.

    If I can do a straight exchange (which is all I really want) I'd be happy.

    I have an unopened, new copy of SSB:B that my sister bought for me off Amazon back in October. My parents got me a used copy of SSB:B from EB a few weeks back. When I bought my system, it came, to my delight, with a copy of SSB:B.

    Hey, at least my family has good taste.

    The other purchaser was my girlfriend's mom. I wasn't really keen on telling her I had already gotten the game as a gift from someone else the day before.
