I wanted to play a game of Catan with my family - y'know, introduce them to it - but I can't think of any place where I can buy it at retail. A quick online perusal of the stuff near me, including a Toys R Us, say it's online only.
Anyone know of any big box stores that would actually stock it?
The large Barnes & Noble near where I live carries it. Other than that, you are better off checking small-box stores. If you have a mall nearby check to see if it has some sort of board/card game store. If so, you can probably find it there.
A lot of Comic/hobby shops will likely have it too.

I would buy it at Amazon. I bought it at a small mom n' pop D&D store locally when I wanted it in a hurry and it was $60+tax (even though MSRP is $50).

You're not very likely to find it in a big box store, they don't tend to stock board games that are any more obscure then Monopoly or Chess (or at least the ones around me don't). Search for local hobby shops or game stores in your area, or order it online.
Thanks guys! I actually secured it at Barnes and Noble down the road from me. Ironically, I looked for it at this exact B&N when I was doing my Christmas shopping and couldn't find it.
The B&N website has this awesome feature where you can look for something inside of your ZIP code, and if they have it, they'll put a reserve on it and send a text to your cell phone when it's ready to be picked up. It's pretty neat.

I've had good dealings with Neal at the WarStore.
On the web at http://www.thecompleatstrategist.com/
edit: Or online is typically cheaper. My favorite shop is thoughthammer games, at http://www.thoughthammer.com/
