Want to see Avatar (imax) in 3-d, but which one.....
Taking my cousins tomorrow to see avatar at imax. I want the 3-d version, basically the best. When I go on the IMAX website to buy tickets, theres 2 avatar movies playing and I have absolutely no idea which is better.
Here is what it says.

Avatar
IN REAL D DIGITAL 3DRated (NR) • 2 hrs. 40 min.
Second one is
#
Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience
Rated (NR) • 2 hrs. 40 min.
Uhhh, so yeah. Which one do I go for? Im guessing they are both 3-d, but other than that, Im clueless.
The Read D is not IMAX, the theater you are looking at must have regular and IMAX screens. If you're absolutely set on seeing it in IMAX buy those tickets, most people seem to think the Real D 3D looks better though so...
I think the Real D thing is relatively new, but it is really just a different way of doing the 3d. Like the difference between dolby digital sound and the other sound one whos name I forget right now. It is all probably pretty much the same.
Your best bet would be to actually ask the people at the ticket counter, if that is possible.

and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say
And yeah, I thinks its a theatre with an imax screen. Went to it a few times and the IMAX screen is a massive screen.
Anyways, the real d digital has a crap load of showtimes and are available to be bought online, while the imax experience has only a few show times and they are sold out for tomorrow. I'm guessing the imax experience is the better one.

Depends if the film was shot with IMAX equipment, like Dark Knight.
I'd go with the 3d one.

I've been told that the movie was not shot on IMAX film.
The sound system will be better in the IMAX, and the screen will be larger; the picture quality will likely be slightly worse (they upsize it using a special lens), and it's probably more expensive.
Personally, I'm skipping the IMAX on this one, but there are arguments both ways.
The iMax was insane, I saw it both ways, and although the smaller screen had a bit more pop with the 3d, the iMax was better all things considered, with a bigger screen, way better speakers, and more comfortable chairs
I have only seen the movie in regular 3d and I want to go see it in Imax 3D. I figure the movie would be more immersive in Imax since the screen covers a much larger percentage of your field of view.
I dunno about you guys, but I walked out of the 3D IMAX movie with a splitting head-ache. So unless you know you can stand 3D or you can get a good seat that is basically dead-center with the screen, I would say avoid it. Three hours of 3D in IMAX really did a number on me and everybody I went to see it with.
We had seats that were the highest up you could get, but we were off center a bit. Dunno if that's worth anything. And I have no eye conditions/visual problems that I'm aware of.
Also, do they do that horrible IMAX intro in every theatre that has an IMAX Screen, or is it just the one in Langley BC ? Cause, man that thing is awful.

Do not feel trapped by the need to achieve anything, this way you achieve everything.

The IMAX version is 3D as well.

IMAX 3D is the way to go for me.

The Digital 3D is the way to go, no question. The clarity of the picture between the two is substantially sharper.
IMAX wasn't bad, and has all the extra perks (sound being a big one), but for visuals go with the Digital 3D.
