Someone parking in my spot...

...and it's freakin snowing. Wouldn't be so bad, except my spot is covered and they got home before I did. Any thoughts? I was thinking about calling a tow truck, but don't want to have to pay for it.

Is it an apartment? Usually the ones with assigned parking have a contract or agreement with a towing service. Try calling the manager.

wouldnt the tow truck take it to an impound lot and the car owner would have to pay the fee to get it out?

This is exactly what happened to a guy I knew in MB Canada.

If it's a your apartment, call the caretaker's emergency contact number and ask what they can do and who'll get stuck paying for the tow. Failing that, find the sign in your parking lot that says something like "Vehicles towed at owners expense - call 555-555-5555". Call that number and ask if they can tow a guy from your spot and verify who'll be footing the bill.

It's totally not gonna be you, though.

I didn't see a sign on the gates showing the tow company. Since it's after 7pm, no one's at the office, so I just left a message. I also left a note on the car informing them I pay for the spot monthly and I'd appreciate it if they'd move it. I didn't mention who I was or how to contact me... but I was hoping they'd move it tonight. I assumed it was just people visiting or something. Just sucks that I'll have to get up early to scrape my car down...

Since he left a note, possibly, but otherwise they wouldn't know if he reported it or if the apartment did. It's even possible that a tow company checks the lot at night. I had my car towed once in the wee hours of the morning because I had swapped cars with my mom and forgot to get my parking permit. These weren't even assigned spots.

The apartments have an office line with an on call maintenance worker. I can call that and get them to tow it, I suppose. I'm not worried about retaliation since we have pictures of the car (license plate and make/model).

That's who you wanna call then. I can almost guarantee they're prepared to deal with this. This must have happened before, at some point, or there'd be a lot less work for tow truck companies to go around, right?

True dat, just never actually had to do this before. The thing is, I'd understand if it was there for an hour or two - I might even sympathize if it was there for 3 hours, but right now, its nearly midnight and they're still there. Since tomorrow is still a work day, this ass planned on staying there all night.

Yes, yes he did. And do you know what? He deserves to walk out and find his ride missing in the morning. Man, is your car even plugged in? Is it on a snow route? Like how badly screwed are you here?

Update: morning style. The car was towed last night around midnight. We were watching District 9 when I got the knock to confirm they hadn't left and I re-parked. Then they towed it, we finished watching the movie (which was awesome) and I took the dog for her last walk. It was around 2am or so and I'm standing there, watching a Dodge Ram across the parking lot (the opposite spaces - below is the rough layout of the spots):

    parking.jpg

On top of that, the windows were cracked and I could hear two voices (man and woman) arguing about something. Snippets I heard:

"...should I do? Wait til they show up?!"

"...where the fuck are we anyways?"

"...WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!"

Granted, all questions and any direct conversation was too far away to be audible, but I thought at the time it sounded like the conversation a distraught woman would have after finding her car missing at midnight.

    Is it an Audi?

Did you call to have it towed or was it automatic?
