So I didn't buy a box of Odalisques - mostly because I needed paints, so bought a bunch. I did, however, manage to find the old Odalisque with Boarding Shotgun that was discontinued when they box was released. I wanted it for the extra shotgun option as well as variety, so I was pretty happy finding that. Also grabbed the Muyib with HML and a chessex dice cube, which marks the first time ever I have owned any dice in my... 21 years in the hobby. My friend will he happy I don't keep purloining his.
It went very well! We used the random objectives list and even though I had less guys at the end than my opponent by two to one (We did start off five to eight though!). I also managed to take out his most expensive dude, take out a specialist and get entirely out of my zone, getting myself the VP I needed to win (Which I love, personally, that you can be losing your dudes more but still win)
Djanbazan with his HMG and visor was a boss, a jump infantry guy deployed near him and used smoke to try and cover the ground and charge, but he just blasted him down which was sweeet, and also managed to take out a morat trooper (I think?) with a HMG before going down. My Naffatun with flamer didn't do very well but that was mostly because of shitty rolls, and went down as well. Tuareg sniper was a boss, took out two dudes before hitting the dirt because my opponent critted on his grenade shot, but I was glad that he spent such time trying to deal with a guy who gave my opponent two casualties and locked down fire lines.
Janissary didn't kill anyone but he did force my opponent back, kept my dudes rolling if they took damage, soaked a wound no problem and so on. Definitely like him, and considering with going for a somewhat HI heavy force in future, I like having good armour and multi wounds. The Asawira seems like a really nice choice...
I've been looking over army lists and dreaming up army concepts. So far, I like the Shasvastii (Combined Army), as they're described as being lord-high bastards of treachery and shenanigans.
So I think, use Sectorial Shasvastii Army with a Gwailos backbone and a complement of more flexible Cadmus units. The Cadmus units operate on the theory that they can always drop on/near the Gwailos and scan the hero character (i.e. Sheskiin) for really buff stats. If not, they still can opportunistically do tricksy stuff depending on the matchup.
The nanoscreens on the Gwailos/Sheskiin also would seem to make them rather mobile, as they're basically carrying light cover with them, I figure this makes them quite good at taking advantage of hidden/drop deployments.
So the list is something like:
Sheskiin (Lt.): 47 pts.
Gwailos x3: 32 pts. each
Gwailos (hacker): 36 pts.
Cadmus x2 (grenade launcher): 28 pts. each
Noctifer x1 (missile launcher): 42 pts.
Seed-Soldier x1 (paramedic): 18 pts.
Slave Drone x1: 3 pts.
Total: 298 pts. (10 figures exact)
Thoughts?
I'm hoping this will be a good mix between conventional force and flexible/tricksy force.
Somehow I've not looked at this thread the whole time it's been on the forums. But wow - those are some beautiful miniatures and I love the way gameplay flows after watching the videos on the site. How well would you guys say the game plays with just the starter boxes? I'm thinking I'm going to get each faction's starter box and run some Infinity games using the old Necromunda boards at the shop I volunteer at. I WAS going to do a store demo set for Mercs or Malifaux, but Infinity really has my attention now.

The game plays well at a low points value, but the points value of the starter boxes varies pretty wildly, so definitely look at that before you start demoing. With most boxes you'll be able to balance them by running the models as proxies for different load outs or different troops entirely (which is necessary in Infinity so it's good to get used to) but some just aren't going to behave.

Most of the time, with a low point starter, you can even it out by buying a single model to add to it. But definitely work out actual lists first - Infinity is a game where being 5 points over can actually mean a lot. Like an additional model.
The starters are all pretty good, but they aren't balanced in the same way some games starters are. For example the CA starter is the most expensive by far, jsut because of the Charontid in it. Some fiddling is required to make demo forces. I generally suggest 3 Light Infantry, 1 Medium, 1 Heavy and a Skirmisher wit ha variety of equipment.
Alright guys - thanks for the tips. I think I found some good demo lists on the forums that will actually come out a little cheaper than starter boxes for each faction !

It's worth noting the starter boxes actually are really good value. They also come with a model unique to the starter that you won't find anywhere else, but buying a starter also means you'll end up with single models from dual blisters. So it's worth weighing up the worth of the starter before you decide to not buy one.

December (January) releases.
Riot Grrls box (these are the first genuinely bad sculpts I've seen Corvus Belli do - no redeeming qualities I can find)
Raicho (I guess people can find a new model to campaign for a release for?)
Sekban Naval Unit (holy shit I love this model. Chunky, heavy armour, heavy missile launcher, and an awesome 'yeah, I blew you up, just deal with it' mosey away from an explosion pose)
Pheonix Veteran Myrmidon (I really like this - the Myrmidons are some of the only Aleph models I like)
Knights Hospitalier (Again, the PanO knights are great, basically Infinitys Space Marines)
Makaul troops (continuing the unimpressive Tohaa lineup)

The Riot Grrls look like the sculptor thought of a bunch of ideas for the weird doohickeys and unique helmets they would wear, but forgot to think of poses.
-Loki-Don't pee in my mouth and tell me it's raining.Registered Userregular
The poses are a symptom of how Corvus Belli to fireteam boxes. They make two standard torsoes, four unique heads, and four sets of arms. The arms and heads will fit on either torso type. They then leave out the 'special' weapon, like the previously released Riot Grrl with Spitfire, as an individual purchase.
It gives you a box of four for a fireteam, but not much variety and the poses are a tad static. The Hassassin Muyib box is a bit of an oddity as they made 5 separate sculpts for the Muyibs sold in 3 blisters, but have decided to combine them into a box of 4 with and the 5th in a starter. Which really blows.

IIRC, they're drop infantry, so it's a type of 'landing' pose. Just the arm positions are a tad weird.
The original starter was kind of... mixed. The infantry look terrible, while the more specialised units looked okay. The Gao Rael is fucking stunning, I'll give them that. I feel if the Makaul were in the starter instead, they would have made a far better first impression. I still don't think they're up with the quality of the other races (though they're ahead of the Combined Army, for sure), that's all. And while the Makaul are good, they're not blowing me away.

I got in a last minute order at my FLGS for the Hassassin Muyib pack with the DEP and Rifle/Light Shotgun. I wasn't going to grab it yet, but the fact that Corvus Belli are boxing up the Muyibs and removing the blisters in February sort of forced my hand. Doubly so that the Rifle/Light Shotgun guy is in the Bahram starter, while the DEP guy is in the Muyib box. I'd have had to buy two full boxes to get those two models, while getting about 10 redundant models.
Now I just need to get cracking on painting the rest of my 200pt team so I can have some big games with my friends Aleph.
I usually don't mind playing with at least some unpainted models (in fact, every game of 40k we have has some unpainted or unfinished models), but since Infinity teams are only like 10 models, I feel really lazy not feilding a fully painted team.

I have so many unpainted models lying at home (The starter sets for PanOcenania, Haqqislam and Ariadna + a bunch of models brought when it was 505 off). The problem is since you only field 10 models you want them to look amazing. So I spend like 10 hours basing layering and carefully painting a model. I actually haven't played in about a year. I really need to get back into it.
In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence.
I read something about an online emulator or something for Infinity/40k, anyone mind PMing me info on what it is and where I can get in on that. Sounds awesome since noone around here plays Infinity and I really want a reason to buy Aleph models.

I genuinely can't fathom the idea of using VASSAL to play Infinity. I mean, sure it's a better option than no infinity at all, it's just seems like it wouldn't do justice to the system due to complexity. How have you guys found it?

I haven't played Infinity but Warmachine plays pretty well on VASSAL, if slowly. Voice chat helps a lot.
Infinity would suffer a bit from having more straightforward terrain, but I could also see that being a benefit since it'd be a lot easier to check LOS.

Sneak peek at the new Gao Rael with Spitfire. I'm loving the direction they're going with everything except the Kamael light infantry.

Januarys releases.
Briscards - Why do the Ariadnan French models look so fucking good?
Celestial Guard - My brother will be all over this, I'm sure. I got him the Celestial guard pack with Spitefire and Sniper for Christmas.
Wildcats with HRL - I guess CB are using bendy straws as armatures now?
ALEPH Support Pack - My Aleph playing friend will be all the fuck over this box. Yudbots, Sophotect and 3 Netrods? Fuck.
Gao-Rael with Spitfire - As I said above, I love the direction the Tohaa are going.

Super sad that the support pack is coming out after I bought two extra Netrods from a dude in the UK just to avoid paying for two Yudbots I'd never use.

Corvus Belli are in a bit of a bind at the moment - they have far, far too many SKUs due to everything being in blisters. So they're gradually boxing things to make it easier on FLGS's. Things like the Support Packs, the Muyibs, etc. So expect more. if you've got stuff that come in a 'set' that aren't in a box, go out any but the models you don't have from it. Because chances are, they'll go into a box soon.

My brother and I finally threw down and got some games in. However, we were using some weird old version of the quickstart rules that he found somewhere which made a complete mess of explaining the ARO system. But it was good fun. I played Haqqislam and he played Yu Jing.
First game I had two Ghulam, one of which was my Lt, a Muyib with a Spitfire and my Hawwa Sniper. I ignored the mines my guys had for the sake of simplicity. I hosed him by I think turn 3 using better positioning and use of cover (and some lucky rolls).
Second game we decided to throw in some more models. I put my Ghulam Doctor and pair of Nasmats in, while he threw in a Domaru Butai with Chain Rifle. Some hilarity that ensued. Due to how we screwed up the ARO system, my Hawwa Sniper got killed by reactionary fire from a Keisotu Butai in cover. 4 times. While my doctor frantically revived each time. Also a Nasmat trying to take on a Haramaki Zensenbutai in CC. So close!
Second game ended with me losing, but taking a moral victory by having my last Ghulam kill the Domaru Butai in CC. One wound off from reactionary fire from my Doctor, the second wound off from the Ghulam shoving his knife in its chest. It was hilarious seeing my brothers face when he rolled a 20 for his CC roll.
Third game I think he threw, because it was getting late and he didn't seem enthusiastic about another game. I pretty much hosed him again.

February releases. Standouts are definitely Kaplan Tactical Services and the Gao Tarsos.
So I'm looking for a new miniatures game to get into, and Infinity seems to fit the bill; the models are gorgeous, it won't cost too much, and the skirmish scale sounds quite appealing.
I'm looking at a Haqqislam army or a PanOceanic army, specifically the knights & Joan of Arc. Is an all-knights PanOceanic list viable, and if so what should I have an eye to as starter models? Will the Military Orders starter pack be a good jumping-off point? I love me some futuristic holy knights.

The Military Order starter pack is a good place to start if you want some PanO knights. The Sectorals, of which the Military Order is one of, are a bit more limited in what they can do compared to the generic PanOceanic faction as a whole, but still very cool.
Also, while not PanOceania, this new Aleph model that was just announced just makes me drool...
