I often dream about my father, who also committed suicide. Sometimes the dreams are about my part in his decision, and sometimes about the horror my mom experienced when she discovered his body; but the dreams that occur the most, and probably hurt the most, are the ones when nothing has changed, and he's still here.

I assume it's just my body going through the grieving process in the least harmful way it can. It's still not fun to wake up from dreams like that.

    Feel better beav.

For some reason, I wake up choking and in a panic at night at least a couple times a week. And always super out of breath. Really weird.

You might have sleep apnea. If you're not breathing well in your sleep you'd probably have all of the symptoms you described. My stepdad has it, and he just wears a mask and sleeps like a baby. Or a log. Or a baby-log.

Man everyone has such interesting dreams. My dreams are usually hard to remember and aren't too vivid. I dream a lot about my dead dog due to my regret of not taking care of her better.

    Guh.

My other dreams involve having cool toys and stuff that I don't have and when I wake up in the morning I'm sad because I don't have them.

Anyone ever play so much world of warcraft that you dream of world of warcraft?

No, but once for X-mas I asked for a samurai sword. I knew my dad got it for me, and that night I was so excited about it that I ended up dreaming I had that sword with me at McDonalds. Then ninjas came. We fought. In McDonalds.

I have a step-cousin that's like...three or so. And he's the most adorable, innocent thing...and he has night terrors. Hearing him scream for help and yet knowing there's nothing you can do is so hard. And his dad is so used to it he almost blocks it out, just soothing him with the occasional "it's okay, buddy".

What's worse is being in half paralysis/ half dream. Like, you know you are awake and sleeping, and you can't move anything, but a finger, or you can feel yourself slightly lift your head off the pillow, but you probably really aren't doing anything?

    ORRRR

when you finally get out of it and wake up, only to roll over and fall right back into the paralysis.

It usually only happens during naps though.

    Are we talking about dreams?

I dreamed last night that there was a conspiracy theory out there that Al Gore was a hoax, and all photos of him were just edited images of a man who died decades ago.

    WHAT DOES IT MEAN???

Yeah my brother-in-law has that. From what I understand, one of the major signs of having that is always being tired and falling asleep really easy. From just sitting down for a few minutes or something. Of course, his never woke him up either, so I don't know.

For me, I'm out of breath, but it feels more like my throat closed up. Rather than just not breathing for awhile. I should probably go to a doctor now that I have medical insurance again.

Are you overweight?Understand that sleep apnea manifests itself in many different ways, and that being overweight is basically the number one cause of the symptoms.

Probably should check in with a doctor.

Sleep apnea is not just found in overweight people, though. My neighbor is thinner than a toothpick and he has it too. Being overweight definitely increases the likelihood, however.

Sorry, Beavs. :( Feel better! I hate having dreams that completely mess with my mood for the rest of the day.

    Dreams is weird, yo.

Sometimes dreams are helpful to me, and make me realize something about my current situation, or something that'd been bugging me that I hadn't been able to put my finger on...but yeah, the sad/scary/unpleasant ones can really mess with you.

I'd take that dream to be positive (though I understand how it's painful, too) - I'm sure she would be very proud of you. You've accomplished quite a lot, and it's great that she played such a huge part in inspiring you to take that artistic path.

    Many e-hugs for you!

ANd on the topic of lucid dreams...

For those with lucid dreamin' interests: I've learned that you have to be completely confident in your abilities or in your decision (where you want the dream to go, and therefore how the dream will progress as you move around, opening doors, turning a corner, seeing somebody in a crowd, etc). My issue isn't starting to fly, but flying high enough to avoid obstacles (trees, buildings, mountains, whatever). As I near a tall tree, I have to pump myself up and be like "FUCK YEAH, tree! I'm totally going to fly over you!" and then things are fine.

To realize you're in a dream: throughout the day, get into the habit of stopping yourself, asking yourself "am I in a dream?" and pausing and actually thinking about it. 95% of the time, of course, you'll be in reality.....but a couple of times you ask that, you'll actually be dreaming (this is how I got into the habit of lucid dreaming pretty frequently, for a time). Of course...there was that one time where I was dreaming...stopped and thought, "am I dreaming"....and mostly-out-of-habit said "nope!" and went on with the dream. I guess I'd gotten really used to not being in a dream when I asked that question. :P

I've had both ends of the spectrum, and I have to say, waking dreams are horrible for me. It's like sleep paralysis combined with things happening around you in a dream. I've had times where I was lying in bed awake and having a dream about being at work, or some other weird event, sometimes it's surgery. I'll be lying in bed, sometimes I can move a little and I can hear voices and things, but I can't just get back to regular sleep, even when I snap out of it more and can turn over, I still have this dream-like fog in my mind preventing me from sleeping.
Really it mostly happens when I have something to worry about, or am adjusting to a new environment, so it doesn't happen too terribly often. When it does happen though, I can usually remember it for days.
