Affluent Viewing Audiences

I have heard, at various times in the past, that both The West Wing and Boston Legal laid claim to being the TV shows with the richest (American) viewing audience. Is there anywhere that lists this statistic? I ask partly out of curiosity, and partly because those two shows are two of my favourite - and I suspect that I would enjoy anything else that has held that mantle.

I'm guessing Mad Men attracts the same audience. I've heard that thrown around before, but I'm not sure where you could find that statistics. Nielsen should be a good start, but I don't remember what stuff they give out to the public.

I would guess that anything on HBO/Showtime/etc would be the most likely to hold such a title, just based on having to actually pay to watch them. Have you tried "The Wire"?

This is true. It's very hard to get those statistics without paying a lot of money, though since it's older you may be able to find them. If you're in college or know someone who is many universities have access to them.

You can't really get current crosstabs of rating surveys without paying nielsen (or whoever.) That's how they make their money.

You might be able to find old demographic data floating around online, and you can certainly find anecdotal cites, ex: http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/for-advertising-purposes-greys-11849.aspx
