I've not been playing close attention, is this better for the Wii or 360?
And there is local multiplayer right?
It is "HD" on 360 and online, so I'd assume the 360 one is better, but most retail stores are dumping the Wii version for really cheap right now because they want to get rid of the stock since it sold so badly, so you can get it cheap.
It seems besides the whole quitting-no-penalty thing there is also a freezing-all-the-time thing. I imagine it'll have no support from EA and it'll be 19.99 by the end of January; this game is tanking hardcore.

If you've got friends (or hell, anyone interested) it's totally fine on the Wii. Graphically it would look better on the 360 but there is no game better after a few drinks with some mates.
The Wiimotes definately bring something extra to the table in terms of rubbing a dunk or rejected shot in a friend's face and the controls are remarkably intuitive. I've had friends pick it up and be playing competantly within a few minutes. Steals are probably the only tricky thing they might have an issue with and that's more of a timing thing.
And the Larry Bird boss battle.
Fuck you Larry and your thrice scoring meteoric three pointers.
I dislike that I can't remap the controls on the 360 version. Having to use the left bumper or the left trigger for turbo is really awkward and drives me nuts. I'd rather have it on the right triggers or on one of the face buttons, because I'm so used to playing Jam on the Genesis or SNES.

Any word on why the Wii one sold badly? Was it people waiting for the 360/PS3 versions once those were announced, or is this one of those things where people point to the Wii and say "lol"?

Neither, it's because NBA Jam is not relevant anymore (and/or overpriced on all three consoles). I highly doubt it's sold any better on the other consoles. Of the three, the Wii version probably sold the best.

A lot of poor design decisions. It should have been a downloadable game, it is under-featured, and like Sporky said a lot of people don't really want to play arcade basketball anymore, especially for the cash grab prices they were charging.
It probably should have just been an XBLA / PSN release and that is it. Or on the Wii too if it has an arcade thing.

several of us said from the get-go the price was way too high, and we were right.

I would have picked it up at $15 on XBLA. It's a fun game when you've got some friends over or just wanna sit back with a beer and play on XBL. No way is a 20-minute arcade game worth $50 in today's market. EA is out of their minds.

I have the Wii version and like it, but I will completely admit a large amount of it is nostalgia factor. I think $25 would have been a more appropriate price point.

And the gaming gods have listened to you my son...
EA Store has NBA Jam for $24.97 after applying coupon code EAFlashJAM at checkout. Shipping is free.
Got this for my Xbox on Christmas and played a couple of games with my brother. So far it has been worth every penny. I haven't taken it online, but I have had a ton of fun in person. This is definitely a play with someone in the room with you game, so if you have someone you can reliably play with, this game is well worth full price. I would highly recommend it.
I forget, does this have classic rosters? Becuase I'm interested if I can relive my Kemp/Payton Sonics glory team, but if I have to look at Durant on the Thunder roster they can fuck right off.

They have all new rosters, but you can unlock classic rosters by playing through the "Classic Tour" mode. Just unlocked Spud Webb and Dominic Wilkins of the Hawks.
So downloadable NBA Jam: On Fire edition. Great. Anybody wanna buy the slightly used Xbox 360 disc version I bought a month ago? I wonder how much I could get on a trade in for it.

Whats the differences between the two?
On Fire Edition is the new downloadable version coming out in October that sounds like what the first version should have been. Team fire, super smart but not cheap AI, constantly updated rosters, etc. Likely also a cheaper price point since it's for XBL and PSN. One month after I paid $50 for NBA Jam: Ripoff Edition.
Hopefully they won't drop support like they did for the disc version. The article says they'll have a ton more features in the downloadable one.
I'll buy it at a reasonable price

Neat news....I have been waiting to buy it on the Wii when the price drops to a reasonable price, so If all the content is in tact, then I'll just wait and probably get it on this.
I feel the biggest draw of the Wii version is still the wiimote interaction. It takes all of about five minutes for someone to pick up the controls and lifting it up to slam a dunk in over a friend's block takes me back to playing the 64 with mates back in high school.

Looking over the cheevement list and then reading this makes me sad. There are some pretty crazy amounts of GS tied to some of those, though.

I'll have to pick up this new one, but $50 is too hefty of a price tag for me.

Just scooped it up for 360 for 26.66 total.
