Alley oops!!!! Have you always been able to do that in NBA Jam, or is that something that is new to this version?
Looks good, very much over the top and arcadey. :^: :^:
You have always been able to alley oop.
Also. I thought the announcer sounded kinda bored and not nearly up to snuff from the first game.

I miss Hangtime...
That was by far the best Jam title to have ever been (though Clinton was pretty sweet). It was so much fun playing with a friend and making two characters that balance each other out with their ridiculous shooting/dunking and giant heads/weird nicknames. I was thinking of maybe picking up a 64 again just for that...
edit: Also, this does look pretty sweet. I've always been a fan of quality 2D myself, but this looks like it might make the transition well.

I can't wait to find out what secret characters they plan on adding to this game.
I'm hoping they continue with tradition and make Obama playable...and maybe Clinton for us old enough to have played the original games when they were new.
Although I don't mind the idea of that classy handflick thing releasing the ball at the peak of a jump done correctly that could looks classy as tits!
It's fun to do the motion for shooting the basketball in Wii Sports Resort, but it might be a little slow for Jam which I would guess is a bit more fast-paced.

At that point you might as well go full tilt and have a bunch of modern presidents so you can have an entire team of them.

Okay, holding the latest issue of Game Informer in hand (issue 204, Portal 2 cover) in hand, and they have a one-page write-up on NBA Jam. I imagine the issue will be out on shelves in a week or so, so you can check the whole deal out then, but here's a summary of features mentioned...
Return of secret and legendary players (Larry Bird's featured in one of the screenshots, taking a jumpshot while Kobe and Pau look on in consternation. Bird has his 1980s hair style and is wearing short shorts)
Big Head Mode and other codes will be featured.
Motion controls, with some buttons used as modifiers. You can also use the Wiimote sideways...no confirmation of Wiimotion+ or Classic controller.
Alley-oops (which haven't been in NBA Jam. They were in NBA Hangtime.)
No more rubber-banding AI.
Original arcade style campaign and also a new mode, called Remix. Remix may have rule tweaks, different camera angles, power-ups, etc. Randomly generated rules for every game.
EDIT: don't want to get anyone's hopes up inappropriately, but here's a direct quote from one of the article's screenshot captions:
Anyone who dosn't get the Wii version will receive my disdain.
Seriously, any other version will likely be bad.

I'd always say things aloud while playing this game like "did you dress in womans underwear and bite a girl?!" Followed by a three pointer and "YES!" from Marv Albert.

Haha.
The rubber banding AI should be an option. Jam won't be the same without losing to a 90 foot jumpshot in a quarter of your games versus the computer.
They really seem to be handling this game the right way though. I was hoping for older players, each team having a legend or two would be fantastic. I wonder if Jordan will let himself in.

Gah I was hoping Kotaku was just missing something about the controls but that Joystiq article seems to confirm it
Controls are intuitive and accessible, mirroring those of the original. You can move, pass, swipe or shove (to steal) and use turbo with button presses on the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Shooting and dunking require you to flick the Wiimote into the air to first jump, and then flick it forward to execute the shot or dunk.

Dude, why would you not want to make dunking motions that actually make you dunk in the game? That seems fucking awesome!

Wow, it amazes me how un-fun this generation has made gamers. :?
Just to be clear, the motion controls are optional, it's already been confirmed through various sources, including Nintendo Power, that the game has a 'no motions' control method.
Because motion controls are awful and should die. Preferably as soon as possible and is as painful a way as possible. Like if they could get Motion Control AIDS, that'd be great.

Wii development kits.
Har har. :P
Though are you sure they were dev kits and not debug kits?

But yea, rappers...maybe they could do Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer just to make the game truly retro!
