The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
You can't really go wrong with tentacles. I mean, the japanese love them, and if there's one thing the japanese know about it's alien monsters.
Do you have a size requirement? I mean, the "alien" from Watchmen (the comic), and the creature from Cloverfield are both pretty cool and fairly unique. But both are building crushingly huge so probably wouldn't work if they're supposed to be running away from them in a dark building.
The creatures of Metroid are a favorite of mine. If you want a terrific alien design, just look at the Metroid itself. Its like an otherworldly Jellyfish with fangs, that sucks the very energy and lifeforce out of things.
After talking with him again now it looks like he wants two, one flying and one on the ground. I think I'm going to go more for the deep sea/crazy insect kind of creature.
And it's going to be as disgusting as possible.
Somehow I will incorporate the anglerfish in there. Any other suggestions?
Long story short, dude needs an alien for a movie and has given a great deal of freedom to design said alien.
Now I'm in the process of looking up alien pictures to get inspiration.
H/A, I would like you to tell and show me what you think are the coolest looking aliens in games/tv/film/comics/whatever.
My personal choices are Thane and Garrus from Mass Effect, but I think this movie requires something a little more horrifying.
Also, no Greys. They are kind of boring.
If you are looking for something 'horror'-ish, go with something that just isn't human in any way. Don't make it biped, don't make it speak english, give it unnatural contortional ability (super flexibility), and for the love of anything, don't give it human facial features. Instead of a mouth, use a proboscis or have it absorb things like an amoeba. Use multiple eyes, or a single compound eye - anything to break apart the human facial recognition or patterns we love to use.

Of course, "sinkers" and "floaters" make me think primarily of matzah balls.

The art is amazing.
He also did one for fantasy creatures. While it's not quite as alien, it still has some sweet arts in it.
Tubifex Worms
Basically its a vampire jellyfish.

He designed the aliens in the alien movies. He has some amazing designs on things. Also the creepiest stuff ive ever seen.
I couldn't watch Blue Planet, or Planet Earth when they covered The Abyssal seas.
That stuff is so freaky it gives me nightmares. ( Angler Fish especially. )
it's the very same water you wade in at the beach.
He's there from 0:38 onward
Also, the things from the end of that show about the evolutionary future of earth were cool. What was that show called, again?
Also, the Navi:
Simply for managing to look neither like cgi/stop-motion/model effects nor just like a man in a suit.

You can never go wrong with illithids!
Read about the Rorschach aliens in Blindsight.
Though they're not half as scary as the humans.

And he did one for hell, which is pretty awesome.
