Boston Independent Showcase?
Why would we want to see games only from developers located in Boston?
PAX isn't a Boston-specific show. It's a national show that is taking place in Boston.
There should be a legitimate PAX 10 like there is each year in Seattle.
Open up submissions and choose the best 10.
Anybody else with me on this?

Nobody is stopping developers from outside of boston from submitting their games. The name only implies that the showcase takes place in Boston. I really don't see a problem with calling it something different. They have stated before that PAX East will have its own flavor, this is just one aspect of that.
By submitting your game for consideration as an individual or company, you must agree to the following rules and regulations.
A. Keep in mind The Boston Indie Showcase was created specifically for independant developers within the greater Boston metropolitan area as defined by the Metropolitan Area Planning council at http://www.mapc.org/sites/default/files/MAPC_Subregions_Map.pdf, so if it is discovered you do not meet the requirements you will be automatically disqualified and we will totally be keeping your $50.
The PAX 10 as it's been done in Seattle has been a nice way for us fans to see exciting games from new indie developers on the rise like Twisted Pixel's The Maw
The best 10 new games from Boston developers are just not going to be as good as the best 10 new games from anywhere in the world.

PAX goers deserve the very best.
Well there is another PAX this year that does have a PAX 10 that you could submit your game for.
Just because they announced this one thing doesn't necessarily preclude the possibility of a PAX 10. And I think trying to start a protest less than 3 months before the event isn't actually going to change anything...
Flashman. You wrote to us yesterday. I responded to you personally. I can assure you that this isn't the first time someone has been unhappy about our rules and then ran to the forums to try and drum up support. The last one did not go so well.
Anyway, like I said in my email:
"Although I appreciate the feedback, the Boston Independent Showcase is meant for Boston area developers only. It’s not trying to be the PAX 10 and is meant to give back to the local Boston gaming community. If you’d like to apply for the PAX 10 in Seattle (which has no geographic boundaries) when that opens in a few months, you’re more than welcome to. Hope that helps!"
Boston isn't our home but so far the city has been AWESOME to us. We feel like we're sort of taking over their town, and we want to make sure they feel the love that they've been giving to us. You're more than welcome to criticize our decision, but it's ours and it's done. If you'd like to try and attempt to undermine it with your grassroots campaign here, feel free, but it will not change anything.
I have a feeling Boston has much to churn out as regards to great games... it's not like they're going to be horrible; infact, they can even be better, who knows? If you don't want to go to PAX East for this, okay.. cya later. But you're going to miss out on the possibly best PAX experience any attendee has ever had. It's all a big tossup and will most likely result in pleasing turnouts.
I assume it won't be as much fun as your usual indie games showcase, but Boston is College city and home to MIT. I don't personally have the skills, but I'll bet a lot of people will want to network with developers and find a place in the industry that will let them stay in the city.
We brought a nice chunk of Hollywood out here because of a tax credit and I wouldn't be surprised if PAX East jump starts the game industry here as well.
Hopefully we can attract the interest of bigger developers looking to expand, which would get more colleges here to offer game degrees, and then complete the triangle of Cali-Canada-Boston for important studios and schools for interactive entertainment.
Aye, that's the big thing. Boston (and its surrounding areas) has a large and growing indie community. I think it's a good gesture to the area!
(I say this as a person who is about 30 miles outside of said boundaries... so while I can't participate, I think it's a novel idea on their part to have a local showcase!)

Oh yeah, the current PAX10 site page is totally bizarre... It's like a 3rd, non-existent, PAX: http://www.paxsite.com/paxprime/pax10.php
