i thought it would be fitting to talk about how CRAZY that movie was.
sweet jesus, i remember this movie when i saw it, it is nuts.

to anybody who has seen the movie, read my spoiler text.
to those who haven't, go get the movie when it comes out or netflix it!

one of the better sci-fi films i've seen in the past years.
wikipedia has it that there's a trilogy plan in the works :winky:

    you mean the actual human they cloned everyone from? he's down on earth with his daughter, you hear his voice when the clone calls the daughter. at least, i think? thats how i remember it anyway

    The ending was pretty easy to guess.

    Still haven't seen it though, but I can't wait to get it on DVD it looks brilliant.

    a) the original went to the moon, and died there. wife has moved on.
    b) the original made a bunch of clones, sent their clone asses to the moon, then stayed on earth to live happily ever after with his wife. until the clones come back.

    According to wiki,
    The first Sam takes a rover out beyond the jammers, and establishes an up-link with the Bell residence using a portable video phone. While obscuring the camera, he speaks with Eve – now 15 years old – who was the girl he had seen previously in his hallucinations. He learns that Tess has died "some years ago", and that the original Sam Bell is alive on Earth.

    I got the impression that satansfingers just expressed since:
    it seemed to me that the daughter was young enough when the original left to have been calling someone else DAD. She also didn't recognize the voice right away which I would think she would if it sounded anything like her new father.

    it would be a pretty big loose end for this big bad corporation to be illegally harvesting humans on the moon but still have the original walking around on earth. that seems like bad business.

    also wouldn't the daughter have, i dunno, recognized her father as being the person she was speaking to

    I was under the impression that the original served his tour and went back to earth. the company then cloned him using the massive amounts of biological they would have gathered from him during his stay. the original was none the wise.

    the impression i got was that sam and his wife were going through some shit, but before it could end finally, the company made good on their 3-year contract and brought him back, with the mutual understanding that nobody ever ever say anything about the clones. so sam gets back, makes up with his family, goes back to regular life, etc. obviously the company can control communications/information enough that people on the ground below arent too concerned/informed with whats going on

    Wasn't the lifespan of each Sam 3 years? So that would only put us something like 4-5 Sams into things, and they had a fuckton of clones. You think that this mishap only happened because it was so early into the program? It's been a while since I've watched this, so I might not be remembering some things.

    ive had more than one family member not recognize my voice when calling from skype, too digitized/not clear. it is not at all unreasonable to think that call quality from the moon would distort his voice enough to make it unrecognizable. especially if, you know, your dad is in the same building as you and the caller would be, as mentioned, some 15 years younger. i recognize my grandpa, but if someone called that sounded like him and i could see my grandpa sitting across from me, my first thought wouldnt be 'hi grandpa!'

    i guess partially i'm basing this on the videos of his wife which i dunno could be changed in some way or something. but i got the impression that she had moved on with some other dude while original sam was on the moon to begin with.

    Remember how things started really getting fishy? The videos were skipping and doing other weird stuff like that.

    They were at the very least edited, if not fabricated to keep "Sam" occupied.

    well i dont remember them ever mentioning another guy, but the videos certainly did imply that she was getting ready to break up/divorce him. but if i remember, those videos were fed to the clones right near the end of their 3-year "contracts". so if the timeline was the same with the original, with him going home after 3 years, it's certainly possible to infer that he got home just in time to work things out with his wife.

    in fact, this is out of the scope of the movie, but one could reasonably assume that the company wanted him to stay longer but he refused due to his dying marriage, which led to the use of clones in the first place. this doesnt totally work since the infrastructure for clone storage was huuuge and would have taken a long-ass time to set up, but still. the marriage was on the edge, he insists on going home, gets there just in time to fix things

    edit: but that's true, they did do the skipping around thing huh? and it was never really fully explained. i guess i just took it as general references to things that would tip the clones off that something wasnt quite right

    I'm comfortable with how the movie doesn't get overly bogged down with detail. It hits all the right buttons at the right times.
