The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a 2009 fantasy film directed by Terry Gilliam and written by Gilliam and Charles McKeown. The film follows the leader of a travelling theatre troupe who, having made a deal with the Devil, takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations.
Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, and Heath Ledger star in the film, though Ledger's death one-third of the way through filming caused production to be temporarily suspended.[4] Ledger's role was recast with Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell portraying transformations of Ledger's character Tony as he travels through a dream world.
So this has been trickling into theaters ever since Christmas. I saw it tonight and it was pretty wonderful. Tom Waits as the Devil was fantastic and the Heath Ledger switch-a-roo worked perfectly.
I'm interested to see this, because I enjoy Terry Gilliam movies and because of Johnny Depp, Collin Farrel, and Jude Law's performances as the same character Heath was playing
I watched this when it first came out a few months ago, since then I had a chance to watch it again. I dunno, I enjoyed it a whole lot less the second time around. It will turn into a very forgettable movie over time, for sure. there are some great performances but Gilliam lets it get away from him as the film progresses. It may be because of the hiatus the film took after Ledger's death but it definately lacks in some parts.

They can't have movies with dead men.
Unless they got one of those Voodoo Queens to raise him from the dead
but what is dumbledore doing there? he should be dead!
but i liked it generally
It didn't seem to be that coherent by the end, but Tom Waits was great
I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU
I'd have to drive an hour to see it because the movie theater gods hate me.
P.S. - My Parnassus OP was a helluva lot better.

love Tom Waits so much
man, tom waits always seems to play faustian characters
it could have been a bit faster paced probably, but it was just so rich with things like themes and Tom Waits being awesome
Verne Troyer was terrible and the worst part of the movie
I'm not sure if being the Devil qualifies as "Faustian"
That's kind of what Terry Gilliam movie do. And they're awesome.
and the whole ending thing with Tony was neat
i expected a stupid "oh he was bad but now hes good cause he loves someone lol"
Yeah, calling the Devil faustian is particularly ironic.
why is tom waits always the devil or characters akin to the devil

lets just ignore his face and his voice and his choice of dress
Okay, if we're ignoring face, voice, choice of dress and occasional lyrical stylings...
then I have no idea why! Good question.
