So I decided to start programming games for fun and started a company called Firestorm Studios. I created a game called Abaddon which just got approved and uploaded to the XBox Live Marketplace. My goal was to create some fun, intense multiplayer experiences for my friends and I to enjoy at LAN parties and over the internet. I just wanted to post a video of it to see what you guys think.
If you're interested in checking it out, there's a free trial available on the XBox Live Marketplace under the "Indie Games" section. It costs 400 MSP ($5 US) if it's your cup of tea.
Bought it this afternoon. It's a fun game, with a surprising amount of depth. I like how much customization you can put into your own ship, the turrets, and your special abilities. Feels limited a bit by the pressure to save up for repairs to the Abbadon, but I got in a good online game with a couple other players where we drew enough fire off the ship to free up funds for modifications.
Since then I've been collecting power orbs and gaining rank. Still haven't survived an Assault game yet. I didn't take out the enemy base quick enough to prevent reinforcements from overwhelming the Big A. But I hadn't figured out the ship upgrades by that time, so I can probably complete it on my next attempt.
Now, a dumb question. The power orbs only affect the player-controlled ship, and not the Abbadon or its turrets, right? Is that true for all of them?

Sweet man, I'm glad you liked the game! Yeah, the cost of repairing Abaddon is one of the complaints I hear about most. It's a tough game to start out on, for sure. One thing that helps is to not repair it too quickly and wait until it's almost destroyed. It's risky, but it's a very effecient use of your resources.
But yeah, as of this build power orbs only effect your own ship. I think in a future update, the most powerful orbs might be able to effect Abaddon and other nearby players.
Yeah, I always wait until the last moment before repairing. It'd be cool if the Abaddon started with a small fraction of a large health bar filled, since conceptually it's a badly damaged vessel, and the repairs added to it instead of restoring it to a set total which could result in wasted resources.
My strategy for Survival is to aggressively orbit the Abaddon with afterburner on most of the time, scooping up the resources left behind by destroyed enemies. And quickly upgrade my ship to the first one on the list, the one that costs 200,000, with the shield, energy and thrust power orbs equipped.
Also, I fill up all the turret slots before upgrading any, it's just a habit from tower defense games where there are limited spaces. Will have to try out upgrading them instead sometime, since my strategy appears to be running out of steam around the 5:47 mark when playing solo.

What I like to do is abuse the repel (forget what it is called). It's the default left bumper ability. Any attacks you push away from Abaddon is something you don't need to repair!

Whoa, does that work on enemy fire? If so, I've gotta start using it more. Haven't really given the bumper abilities a fair shake, apart from using the afterburner nearly full-time.
