Bootcamp runs in background?

Hey,
Playing on a friend's macbook. Looking at the task manager in a windows 7 boot, I see there's a bootcamp.exe process running. What's it doing there? I thought bootcamp just was a dual-boot prompter between partitions. It isn't doing anything VM-y, is it?
1) the application in mac OS that lets you partition your drive and install windows
2) the drivers that enable you to use the macbook's hardware features natively under Windows, and the tray app that lets you control those features. Namely: screen brightness, keyboard backlighting, trackpad, and webcam.

What you're seeing is the second thing.
