Army of Two: The 40th Day

Second real week o' games of the new year and the games keep a'comin'!

We have a Sega RPG called Sands of Destruction for NDS. Could be another decent JRPG for the system.

Then, the HD consoles and PSP have Army of Two: The 40th Day, the sequel to EA's previous coop-centric third person shooter featuring gratuitous fist-pounding.

Next the Wii gets Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, a flight combat game from the Ace Combat people, based on the books/anime in Japan. It looks like it'll be pretty good; the Wii needs another good flight combat game. Also on Wii we have Capcom's Phoenix Wright on WiiWare, which should please the many fans of the attorney non-sim. Lastly I believe Chronos Twins comes out for WiiWare, which is a really cool concept and based on a previous DS reslease, which was good in concept but poor in execution so hopefully the new one is better.

Last but not least we have Serious Sam: The First Encounter HD coming to the Xbox 360 this week! Woooo! Or should I say, AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaahhhh yourself!

The demo of Army of Two: The 40th Day was a bit of a shitfest.

Edit: iirc, the version of Chronos Twin on Wiiware is a straight up port of the DS version, not a new game.

For clarification (for whoever may or may not know), waggle to object is optional, as the objection command can be set to a button press.

But why wouldn't you want finger-pointing waggle!??!

Everyone thinks it's got something to do with babies unfortunately.

If the reviews continue to be decent I'll probably get the game though.

hmm, it looks like Yasunori Mitsuda worked on this game. Might be worth checking out.

Phoenix Wright Wii apparently just uses the GBA sprites again, or so I've heard.

    Not gonna be pretty.

Also, Sky Crawlers is "another" good flight combat game for Wii? What was the first one?

Posting ust to show some people some Phoenix Wright WiiWare stuff. It seems straight from the DS version, condensed back into one screen.

WiiWare - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - First Look Part 1

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Japanese Advertising - Wii

And yes, this one is different.

Well.. HeatSeeker was okay. Not sure I'd call it good but it wasn't all that bad. It had a lot of cool controller options, and it was pretty fun dogfighting and target bombing action. Problem is that graphically it looks like a total turd. And the story is pretty laughable. Still, it has an awesome variety of jets to take control of, and they all feel very distinct. There's also a huge variety of weapon and missile types to choose from, the strategic choices of which heavily affect how well you'll do in the mission. Pick a poor jet and a poor load-out for a given mission and you'll have a hell of a hard time; pick a suitable jet and a good load-out for a mission and you'll rock. Anyway, blazing through the skies, chasing down and locking on and blasting down enemy fighters is just a really fun activity and it gets that right, even though the graphics are pretty bad.

I'm probably going to pick up Phoenix Wright as I've never played those and have heard nothing but awesome.

Also, I'm still surprised that Army of Two got a sequel...and weirdly kind of interested in it. I should perhaps go play the awful-sounding demo.

So, the PSP Army of Two is pretty decent, though keep in mind that it's an arena shooter with the story of it's big brother. Also for max lazy reuse story points, uses the same cutscenes as the PS3 version

Sky Crawlers gets it's name from that anime movie by that guy who made Ghost in the Shell, if it ends up good, I could always use more flight games.

How does it control with one nub?

Also, the fist pounding seems to have been toned down for the sequel. You can still do it and whatnot, but I think the devs felt a little embarrassed at all the mockery their game got and made it a little more serious. I can't wait to see what Gabe and Tycho think this time.

Not bad, and it has auto aim and a co-op mode, so the face buttons to shoot in 8 directions is better than on most games

I tried the Army of Two demo on 360, and actually found it rather enjoyable. Well, until it crashed during a load screen after myself and my co-op partner died...I'm thinking he maybe quit and it crashed because he was hosting.

Anyway, I'm thinking of picking it up now.

EDIT: I also tried the PSP demo, and wow, it was really cool too. It reminds me of a mix of a dual stick shooter, Killzone Liberation, and Contra. It might also be the best looking PSP game I've ever played.

I didn't realize that RealMyst required highway robbery in order to obtain. I haven't played my copy in years and would have perhaps considered selling it. Really cool that it's on gog.com, it's a pretty neat game.

I should actually try playing it again as I imagine I could finally run it well! It was a huge system hog at the time of release. I remember it looking amazing though.

I think it was free on GameTap for a little while, but you had to sign up with them. Now you can get it cheap with no strings attached. People were charging ridiculous prices for used copy. Sometimes it was $50 for just the CD. Complete boxed versions go for about $120. It is kind of silly. It is just Myst.
