Mic/headset combo for use with Xbox 360. Jack is 3.5mm though

Got a 360 and been spending time online talking to friends. I remembered that a few years ago I bought a headset with a mic for my computer for gaming. I fished it out and tried to plug it into the controller, but the plug was too big. I think the jack is 3.5mm while the 360 headset is 2.5mm (please correct me if I'm wrong) so I cant use the headphones.

1. Firstly, would such a headset work with the 360?

2. Would I need something like this?
http://www.thesource.ca/estore/product.aspx?language=en-CA&product=4212388&category=Cable+Adapters&catalog=Online&tab=6#more

3. It is this brand.

But the design is different since it is older.
What kind of quality should I expect? Will my voice be worse? I want to do this because I enjoy playing with my headphones on, but cant talk to my friends while doing it.

Thanks guys.

    The problem is the 2.5mm connector for the 360 headset sends mic audio down the line and receives mono audio up the same cable. For the 2.5mm connector, the tip is Mic+, ring is Audio+ and the sleeve is Ground. Normal headsets have a 3.5mm connector for stereo sound and a separate 3.5mm connector for the microphone.

    If you make a custom 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male audio cable you can hook up just the headset's mic+ and ground wires to the 360 controller and set the voice audio to play over the speakers. So you'll have your headset's audio connected to your TV/receiver/whatever and your headet's mic connected to your 360 controller.

    I've actually done this with my Plantronics Gamecom 377 and it works, but the mic is not sensitive enough and needs an amplifier. The CMoy amplifier I cobbled together somehow does not work at amplifying the mic signal, but that's another problem for another day. Fortunately, I've found a microphone that is very sensitive without amplification that I plan to graft onto some normal headphones of my liking.

    Just use a 3.5 -> 2.5 adapter.

    I did it with a normal computer Headset (headphones + mic 3.5mm plugs), with the mic adapted through.

    edit: also set voice chat to come out 'speakers' so that it'd get sent to the normal headphones.
