I went through a similar struggle at the video store yesterday.
To my amazement, they had both Bayonetta and Darksiders in stock, which totally ruined my plan to just rent whichever one wasn't out. I ended up getting Bayonetta because I was having a friend over and it seemed slightly more conducive to social "take turns" type play.
I guess it boils down to this: Which do you like more, Zelda or Devil May Cry?
Ok, let's approach this from another angle, which is the better rental and which is the better purchase? (or are they both rentals?)
Bayonetta has increasingly harder difficulties, things that will take several playthoughs to unlock, and if you're into personal challenge, a scoring system that rates you on each chapter, so you can aim to get better until you're getting platinum trophies.
I haven't heard anyone say the words "replay value" about Darksiders, but I hear it is fairly fun.
That said, unlockables in this case are weapons, abilities and accessories that you couldn't find/afford on your first playthrough, all of which actually change the way the game plays. Not just arbitrary achievements.
I've heard that the PS3 version of Darksiders is a bit better than the 360 one, and that the PS3 version of Bayonetta is absolute shit. Like, sites are even reviewing the versions separately.
Just something to keep in mind, I'd have picked up Bayonetta by now if not for the problems there.

Check out the threads for each game and decide on which one has the prettier OP.
man i dont count on it, and i dont buy games on the hope that they will get patched. the only reason im even throwing it out there is that there are a bunch of rumors that a patch is coming floating around. i'll believe it when it releases, and then i will buy the game that day.
console developers have the worst track record of patching glaring terrible problems in their games these days. its a shame.

Can't speak for the other- never looked remotely appealing to me.
