Yeah. Looks like it's a player race, not a bridge officer. The bridge officer is the Amazon pre-order bonus.

Man. There is no way I can justify $250 to my wife for one game. Even for playable Borg. If I have a preorder and go monthly for a little while can I still lifetime later? Or is this a now or never offer?

Also. Jumping in system to kick raider ass with a couple other players is pretty sweet. The rediculous amount of clutter/information-overload of all the jerks in sector space who I don't give a shit about is not as cool.

It was a now-or-never offer for Champions, so I don't see why this would be any different. Also, I would plan on getting the subscription soon, if you want it. They ran out of subs for Champions and people pitched a fit, but hopefully they'll manage this one better.

    SO
I successfully got a del taco cup with the star trek thing. The code is a 20digit unique deal, and on the site it says:
    Star Trek Online
    Activated Features

    * Star Trek Online Open beta access
    * Star Trek Online Del Taco Promotion C

as there are four cups to collect, one would think that I have the third of four codes. ??? (springville utah) had the santa cups, but I asked the kid about a star trek promotion. "a what promotion?" "...star trek?" "well, we have these cups..." ".../GTA4"

Six dollars for two chicken soft tacos, which turned out to be beef, and a massive cup of undercooked fries. The diet coke was ok, since I poured it myself :P. As I had already gotten a key through Fileplanet, I dont know if this is a closed beta key or a retail trial. logged in to the game when I activated my code so idk how one redeems their shuttle.

since its activated, and since someone said they were universal like the ST-2 uniforms, here you guise go:
ZH4L-9WPB-7VMZ-L9Y9-DAAA. It likely wont work, so don't PM me when it doesnt. And if you get my account B&, you owe me a year at launch.

    edited for derp:
If you redeem a unique code from each of the four exclusive Del Taco cup types, you will get 10 days of free trial time. Free trial time will be applied right when you redeem the code. So, if you redeem one code before our game's launch on February 2, 2010, you'll be able to play Star Trek Online for free until February 4, 2010. etc etc
    ...
When can I play Star Trek Online?
You'll be able to begin playing the Star Trek Online Open Beta on January 12, 2010. Star Trek Online officially launches February 2, 2010.

When do I get the Type-8 Shuttle in-game?
You'll be able to use your Shuttle once the game launches on February 2, 2010.

When does Star Trek Online launch?
Star Trek Online launches worldwide on February 2, 2010.
    etc etc
sooo yeah, they arent out of beta keys. just paypal someone in the US six bucks (tips welcome) and they can go get you a del taco code.

The space combat in STO has been done before in:

    Star Trek: Starfleet Command
Star Trek: Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates
Star Trek: Starfleet Command II: Empires at War
    Star Trek: Starfleet Command III

Never did I say the game sucked because of the space combat, I just said "They put Starfleet Command minus features into an MMO". That is a statement, not an evaluation.

The graphics are not "astounding". I have everything at max settings. They are not astounding in the slightest. They are ok for an MMO and they certainly bring across the Star Trek feel. But that's because of the art direction and not the graphics engine. Space looks great and the ships look great too.

Character customization has nothing to do with graphics and is not something I even wrote about.
The customization is great,I even said so a few posts back.

The menu being better than games with shitty menus hardly qualifies the menu as good.
It's passable but also kinda awkward and doesn't really manage to fit everything in neatly.
It's ok though, it works and that's all it needs to do.

The ground combat has nothing to do with Mass Effect because there is no actual aiming,no cover and nothing that really distinguishes it from other MMOs. Putting the camera next to the shoulder of your character with a button and thereby upping the damage is not revolutionary or unheard of.
Again, I could say "Hey, Tabula Rasa." which was exactly what I thought about when first playing the ground combat. Which is not a statement about the quality of the combat, but just says "Oh,ok,I've seen this before,it's like Tabula Rasa."

I like the game. I like the customization, the mission ideas, the fleet battles and the general Star Trek feel.

However the only way the game gets away with the price it is asking for is because it has STAR TREK on the box.

Just ignore him, he is trolling.

Yeah, how does THAT feel? :/

    Anyway, how's the pvp.

If they are giving 2 additional character slots with a lifetime sub, how many slots will come standard with the game?

Taken from the FAQ on the official page:

    Source
Q: What are the playable Borg’s in-game traits?
A: The Liberated Borg begins with the following two traits. You can select another two traits from a general list.

    Borg Nanites: +10% Health Regeneration
Description: Ground Trait. Constantly regenerates shields and health.

Efficient: +5 Starship Shield Efficiency, +5 Starship Engine Efficiency, +5 Starship Energy Weapon Efficiency, +5 Starship Auxiliary Systems Efficiency
Description: Space Trait. Provides a bonus to efficiency stats, improving the effectiveness of many of your power management abilities.

The Liberated Borg also has a unique optional trait.

Neural Blast: 30 second debuff. Drastically reduces run speed. Every 4 seconds, Neural Blast has a 40% chance to hold the target for 3 seconds.
Description: Activatable Ground Trait. Inject the target with neural toxins, which continually attempt to hold the target for the duration. Also reduces the target's movement speed.

    Ouch.

I mean, I guess that leaves room for one character of each career. But that doesn't leave much room for many people who like to make extra characters based on cool concepts. I mean, what if all of a sudden a person gets an itch to play an Andorian Science officer, but they already have their 3 slots filled.

My just froze in Qu'nos and I'm back at the "Retrieving..." screen.

My Klingon faction, Orion raced Caina is up to 14 and is about ready to finally start her ship pvp. I wanted to have all MIVs before getting into it, so I just stuck with ground combat to gear up.

Seriously 2 days of ground pvp and I have 2 rares and 2 uncomons MIVs for my ground pvp and MIVs in ever ship slot. I'm sad to say I'm prob going to stick to this faction.

Now, just have to resist the lifetime sub, because lord knows I dont have the money.

Well Pika, after playing for about 6 hours.....I'm not feeling it. Bridge Commander's ship combat is better in every way, and the interface isn't very intuitive. I guess if I wanted shooter stuff...I could play Elite Force? I'm going to give it another try tomorrow, but I guess my problem is I've played more polsihed version of the individual parts. =\

went and got two more cups for my RL friends. I have now spent on the beta alone about a month and a half subscription's worth.
kinda funny, she asked if the two drinks (alone) were "for here or to go?"

all three cups were the same one (of the four types), so we are all now Star Trek Online Del Taco Promotion C's. so anyone going for all four... wait a few days between taco runs, because they seem to come in stacks of one type

Well I don't know what Atari's health looks like these days. But Cryptic Studios's City of Heroes has been out since 2004, and I've definitely seen posts from people who are still playing it. There's even a new expansion for it coming out this year.

Goddamnit people stop bringing this up. The open beta is open because the information is flowing freely.

It is also open because a shitload of websites were giving away free keys to people who are paying attention. Also Target is selling key cards for a buck, which also includes a 5 dollar coupon off the cost of the game. Also you can get a key by pre-ordering or doing other stuff. There are tons of ways to get keys.

You just gotta pay attention to when promos are going on. Read this thread. They almost always get mentioned.

Actually that -is- what an Open Beta means. There is no NDA, people can make videos/talk about the game as much as they'd like to. It's not like you didn't have plenty of chances, nor that you wont get more. The beta is going up until the... 26th yes? They'll release more keys.

I REALLY REALLY hope they push the beta out another month and issue more keys. I bet they would make that much more money off the polish time than launching early and people being pissy. I had an absolute blast tonight but it was reallllll rough in spots.

Efficient on Borg Bridge officers. So all your bridge officer stats effect your ship. Even inherent traits.

So, for example, were i to have 3 Bolians. I'd get +15 to all my power stats? +20 if my captain had it as well?
