I find it very interesting and would like to hear more of it, does anyone know any bands that are similar?

    You might like Polysics.

You might even like Melt Banana but they could also be a bit crazy sounding if you're not into that type of stuff.

My jpop song of choice these days is the one that made the new opening to FMA Brotherhood. It's called Golden Time Lover by Sukima Switch. It's a great jazz-fusion tune.

Keep in mind that the circle that performed that song primarily does Touhou remixes/arrangements, and Bad Apple is from one of the older games in the series:

Since you mentioned catchy I might as well post this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAbhJk4YJns

    Original:

Some other things you might as well give a listen to:
    ED from Bakamonogatari:

    Kimi ni Shiranai Monogatari

    ED from K-On!:

    Don't Say Lazy

Theme song/ED from Kara no Kyoukai:

    Kalafina - sprinter

A song I found catchy even though the anime is shit:

    Nana Mizuki - Discotheque

If you like Sukima Switch, look into Takuya Ohashi. He's one of the guys from it and did a solo CD. Um... if google is showing me the right video, this would be it:

Alternatively, it might be this video:

    A song I found catchy from Rosario+Vampire:

Yeah! Rosario+Vampire is one of my favorite series, and it has quite a lot of catchy tunes:

The OP song is from a series of games called Touhou, you can find a ton of those remixes on Youtube.

Alternatively, a lot of catchy songs are snatched up and used for AMVs.

Look up the anime centric works of TM Revolution.

He did some work for Soul Eater ( Resonance is the OP from the beggining of the series ).

    Great stuff.

The Starry Sky by HAL from Angelic Layer is a good one. There are some remixes of it that are pretty sweet.

School Boys by Yamoto from Gakuen Heaven is a good one.

For a heavy metal infusion try Kenji Ohtsuki ( Ootsuki ). His song Kuusou Rumba ( and Kuusou Rumba Rap ) are pretty good high energy stuff ( from the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series )

See Saw ( which did its most famous work on the soundtrack to .hack//SIGN ) is another good artist. Their song Obsession is a good catchy tune.

Motteke Sailor Fuku ( The OP to Lucky Star ) is an insane high tempo song.

Hide & Seek by Namie Amuro is a good one ( Featured in the WoW machinima "Blind" )

Gouin ni Mai Yeah~ by "Fuura Kafuka" from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a good one. So is Zessei Bijin by Ai Nonaka.

Another good rock fusion tune is Sorairo Days by Shoko Nakagawa ( The OP to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan )

I really have to reccomend the entire Soul Eater soundtrack at this point. Songs like Psychedelic Souljam especially.

Another Kenji Ohtsuki ( Ootsuki ) song is Odoru Akachan Ningen from Welcome to the NHK. Also Ringo Mogire Beam from the latest Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series.

A good sorta funky song is 19sai by Suga Shikao ( the OP from xxxHolic )

I cant think of any other ones that might fit the criteria right now, but those are a lot of the good ones.

I also must second Sukima Switch... excellent stuff.

Seriously though, it's hard to recommend music based on one video. What genre are you specifically looking for? R&B, Hip-Hop, Fusion, Eurobeat, Synthpop, Technopop, Psychedelic pop, Bubblegum pop, regular pop. Japanese music is pretty broad!

It seems like we're on a more techno oriented theme here... but the title just says "catchy," so here is some stuff I find catchy.

That is what came to my mind when I thought of catchy songs that The Pillows have written, but most of their stuff is pretty catchy if you're into that type of music.

Uh, well, while I'm not a huge fan of the style of music in the OP, the first thing that came to mind was Hamasaki Ayumi (浜崎あゆみ). She's much more mainstream, and she's much more rock than techno these days, but it's somewhat similar.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vloAeUsG38I

A more techno option might be Perfume. Annoyingly catchy and stupidly popular, it crawls inside your head and just keeps bouncing around.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThmUt7fXX6U

And if you'll allow me a random reccomendation, might I suggest Shina Ringo (椎名 林檎) and her band Tokyo Jihen (東京事変)? Here's two examples of her recent solo and group work.

I love Rip Slyme and always keep at least two of their albums on my ipod (EPOCH, Good Job!).

But you can't mention Rip Slyme without posting this (NSFW):

wow, this really exploded, I like a lot of the previously posted stuff, Perfume is great, Liking the Rip Slyme stuff too, especially the first one.

I'm definitely more interested in the techno side of this music, but I love anything with a good solid beat, which is why I didnt really specify a genre. That and I really am at a loss when it comes to Japanese music, it seems a lot of the time that they dont really even come in album format (they probably do, I just dont know where to look)

I'm going to have to go through all of these and give them a good listen. If anyone has anything else to suggest, I'm all ears :)

They most definitely come in album formats. I think the problem is that most Japanese music is still popularized in the west by anime or video games, so people tend to search for soundtracks or one specific song, instead of by artist. Stuff like The Pillows is an exception because hey, they used a half dozen or so of their songs for a single series.

If you like Perfume check out Capsule (カプセル). They produce Perfume and the influences are immediately obvious, but you'll find they have more variety. At work now so I can't use youtube, but I imagine you could find something there.

    My 2 cents contain AKFG.

They have occupied my ipod steadily for the last 5-6 years, and are probably in my top 3 favorite bands of all time.

I dunno if they're considered too mainstream for the hardcore J-music crowd, but... goddamn they are technically amazing. Enjoy!
