so about four days ago, it came time for my car to get an oil change. My car also began, well, shuddering or jumping when it changed gears(its an automatic). It's mostly only noticeable when going from first to second gear. I got my oil changed today, and the car inspected, and no one mentioned anything of it. However, the check engine light came back on while I was driving home and now it's doing it again.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Get thee to an auto fixery.
Aside from fluid levels and tire pressure, they don't check very much when you get your oil changed. They certainly don't take it for a test drive and they absolutely don't check any CEL readings.
More info is needed to diagnose this, but it could be a number of things. By "shuddering or jumping" do you mean it feels like your car is about to stall? Could be the transmission. Could be the fuel pump. Could be a lot of things.
You'll need to take it to a mechanic no matter what the fine folks of H/A can tell you based on vague descriptions over the Internet, so bring it in to a mechanic and explain the problem.
The CEL reading alone will cost you about $50, just to diagnose what is wrong. You could find someone with a reader and they could scan it, but you wouldn't know what the code meant anyway.
Did you mention the transmission issues when it was dropped off? Most likely they just drove it onto the hoist, did the change, and parked it again.
Or in the case of one of those quicklube joints, they don't even move it. They have a lower level where the guy goes to do all the work, after you've driven it into the drive-thru style garage yourself.

Screw that, AutoZone will read codes for free. Use that + Google to spot what's throwing your CEL.
Mind you I had two cars with a nasty thump (on that same 1->2 shift in an autobox, natch) and in both cases an ATF flush fixed it. One was a 3-speed Neon, one was a 4-speed Civic.

We don't have that sorta service in Canada
Still, google + code does not mean you can fix the problem. You're still left with having to take the car in.
Don't you guys have mechanics who will diagnose a car for free in the States? I can't find someone to scan my CEL for free, but I've been charged only ONCE for having a car looked at, and that was because he had to take shit apart to figure out what was happening.
A(n) (un)common automatic transmission that is "shuddering or jumping" between certain gears could mean there's something caught in the manual valves. It doesn't take much to seize up an AT, so if a piece of contamination that finally got into the valve body then it could cause some permanent problems. Again, this is (un)common. An ATF flush might get rid of the thing, but if it's metallic and becomes lodged in the workings, then your entire AT might be fucked. Fortunately, that might be under warranty. Definitely get it checked out; there are ways for making it talk.

It could also be a bad ignition coil, as the jump from first to second is the most notable when and automatic shifts gears.

Well, he's in Texas so thankfully that doesn't affect here.
Here in Canada, you just have to be good with your mechanic.
Or have an OBDII reader yourself, though that does make you the "Hey, can you pull a code for me?" guy.

When asking any car questions the type of vehicle is helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll run it by Autozone and see if they can at least tell me whats wrong.

FYI, running the code won't actually tell you what's wrong--it's just going to tell you what error is registering. Each code has a set of diagnostic tests, some more involved than others, to actually identify the actual problem. It will narrow the field, but the code won't tell you that you need a new (insert random part here).

If it comes back as an emissions problem then there is an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty for just about every car out there.
Take it to where you bought it or a certified Toyota Dealership for details.

Hopefully it's just a case of low tranny fluid or it needs to be flushed. Failing that, it could be starting to go out on you.
