So i have a droid and I want to rip a dvd to it so I can watch it on the plane in 7 hours. I have been trying this for a few weeks and keep getting it wrong with Afro Samurai. All the tutorials I find online deal with the old version.

Someone please help (I already have handbrake) and keep it simple for a newbie.

Does the new VLC have that option? Depending on what format you need it to be in, I would use handbrake instead. It has a lot of formatting options to choose from, and you should be able to get a good quality rip from it.

Keep in mind you'll need to decrypt the DVD first before handbrake can read it, with a tool like AnyDVD or DVDDecrypter.

Woops, I didn't realize you said you were working from a DVD. Sorry for not reading the whole OP. That link that Pudding posted is a great tutorial once you have the DVD decrypted.
