What extension can I download or what setting would I need to turn off to turn off that damned video player on the top right of the www.espn.com main page without messing up sites like youtube?

    Try flashblock. It lets you right-click on a flash applet and choose something like "Block this applet." Similar to adblock, but for flash stuff.

    Or you can just use adblock and block something like "*/FSPContainer.swf"
