So I've been wondering lately...are there any "miracle cures" so to speak, that hasten the sobering process? I've recently overdone it to the point where I feel like swearing off alcohol forever, and I was wondering if there was anything specific I could have done to make myself not feel like death for quite as long. Any advice is appreciated.
You mean you want hangover cures or you want to know how to sober up faster?
Drink a glass of water for every drink you have (while you're out) is always a good idea. This'll keep you from dehydrating.
The next day, bananas and Gatorade are an excellent way to get yourself back into shape.
But, nothing, and I mean NOTHING will cause you to sober up faster. Time.

Yeah, you just gotta wait it out for the most part. Sleep it off if you can to minimize the amount of time you're awake and suffering.
Also if you got that drunk, swearing off alcohol is probably not a bad idea. But I'm a recovering alcoholic so I'm biased.

Damn. I've tried google and there are a lot of "miracle cures" out there that are professed to work, but I wasn't sure if I actually believed in any of them. I was hoping there was something someone could tell me that would help the alcohol leave my system quicker. It's not the hangover I'm worried about, it's the "holy crap I drank so much I would rather be dead than feel how I feel right now" period that I'm concerned with.

Nope. There is nothing. Not coffee. No pills. No tricks. Nothing but time.
yeah, your liver can only process alchohol so fast, there's no way to speed that up. People say cold showers, coffee, eating, all types of stuff, some of it may wake you up and make you "feel" less drunk, but none of them can remove the alchohol from your system
I had never drank before my 21st bday, and actually wasn't planning on getting drunk. But as a new drinker, I over did it, and felt like crap the next day at work. Stomach burning, barely awake, the whole deal. My boss gave me some simple advice that has worked every time - eat something that will make you shit. So I went up, got a 12 inch Subway meatball sub, and a little bit later, voila! I felt tons better. But, as others had said, this doesn't really sober you up quicker. But it sure makes me feel better.

Your body metabolizes alcohol at a set rate. There is nothing you can do to speed up this rate. Any "miracle cures" online are scams, pure and simple.
There are real cures for hangovers, but nothing that'll help you sober up faster.
Try to just learn your limit and stop before you get sick. You don't need to swear off drinking, just learn self-control. This is especially true if you're just starting drinking.
Drink water before you sleep and in the morning have greasy food and gatorade.
I find a good big breakfast of bacon and eggs will solve any hangover issues.
You want to eat a big meal before going out drinking. Preferably something with a lot of fat in it (good fats ideally), I believe it lines your stomach to slow your alcohol absorption.
if you're talking about a hangover, that's not really so much alcohol as just plain dehydration (although aldehydes formed by the oxidation of the alcohol play a part). I personally drink as much water as I can before I go to sleep, and I haven't had a full awful headache hangover in a long time
Eating a pretty heavy meal (see: greasy) after a night out and then taking a power nap does the trick most of the time.
This and lots of water usually does the trick for me.
That and making sure I drink water and eat something before I pass out in a drunken stupor. Luckily my body gets hungry and thirsty while drinking and I listen to it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetirizine supposedly helps against hangovers, you take a pill or two before you start drinking and it will take the edge off the hangover.
However, mixing alcohol and medicine is bad so not sure if this is something you want to do.
If your already hung over, a shower, junkfood, lots of liquids and sleeping does the trick for me.

As my sixth grade health teacher said, you can give them coffee or stick them in a cold shower, but at the end of it you'll just have a clean, wide-awake drunk person.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
Eat the greasiest food you can get your hands on before you start drinking and then have a glass of water to every drink for the rest of the night. The greasy food slows the absorption of alcohol and the water helps keep you from getting dehydrated.
Oh, they did a mythbusters on hangover cures but I can't remember what their results were. They were mostly 'it does nothing' but there were a couple that made it temporarily better.
I have found that drinking an energy drink before bed helps. I have been told its the Vitamin B12, but I'm not sure. And as I get older I exercise more self-control, so really I don't think I'd even be hung-over anyways. But a can of Monster before bed, and I wake up feeling awesome....
Don't just lay in bed or on the couch. Get up and do stuff. Make yourself a heavy meal. Go for a walk. Clean your room. Just a small amount of activity will make you feel better. It might not actually make you process alcohol any faster, but it keeps you from focusing on the headache or whatever else ails you. If you just lay in bed feeling sorry for yourself, you'll just enter a downward spiral where things get worse and worse.
Or sex. Sex is awesome for curing hangovers in my experience, but sadly, an inconsistent availability makes it something you don't want to rely on.

No, you wanna rely on it. You probably just don't get to.
Well, yes. Which is why you don't get to rely on it.

Keep in mind that a lot of the hangover advice is coming from very young people. As you advance in age, the ol' liver doesn't work quite as well as it used to. At 32, my hangovers are BRUTAL. I can go out and have just 2 or 3 drinks and wake up feeling like I polished a handle of whiskey.

The "miracle cures" that exist are just a combination of a minor painkiller (for the headache) and some kind of stimulant. You can make your own "hangover recovery kit" easily enough using your substances of choice.
The best way to prevent a hangover is to stay hydrated; most of the major symptoms are actually caused by dehydration, not the alcohol itself. I used to make a habit of picking up a liter of gatorade on the way home from parties; now I just make sure to drink water.
Having a meal before you go out (a full meal, preferably something bland, like mild spaghetti) will help you keep more alcohol down and make the possible BLAAARGH a little bit less unpleasant. Some of it is practice, and some is just you getting old.

this is just too true! age doesnt help with hangovers, feels like my head will explode at times
edit: Ill elaborate some more on this most helpfull post.
I find that staying away from ceirtain types of alcohol helps on a hangover, but sometimes its just random.
Red wine can be a no no, think it has something to do with the level of tannin in the wine, so find one with a low level. Same with brown liqour (cognac, whiskey etc), eating some salty food and drinking water before passing out also has a positive effect on me
Not to state the obvious, but your body has a built-in means of regulating your alcohol absorption -- i.e., puking your guts out. Most of the alcohol intake is through the small intestine, so if you barf it up while it's still in your stomach, the effects are minimized. Which means that you have 15-45 minutes to decide if you really needed that third Mind Eraser.
Not that I'm advocating controlled vomiting as a means of sobriety management, mind you. But per the OP, if you've got a belly full of recently-ingested booze and you're beginning to think it was a bad idea and your body is asking if it could please return it, it's probably best to honor the request. Vomiting sucks, but alcohol poisoning sucks a lot worse.
If it's been more than 45 minutes since your last drink and you're trashed and wishing you could just sober up and call it a night, you're SOL. You bought the ticket, you take the ride. Time to switch into hangover management mode!

I recall vigorous exercise working fairly well.
Anyway, OP, know your limit. You're an adult. If you don't want to get disgustingly drunk, don't drink to that level just cause "you're big". You can be a lightweight anyway, or even just be a responsible drinker.

Having eaten food will slow down the absorption of alcohol while you're drinking it (ie, you'll need more alcohol to feel drunk), but once its in your body nothing will speed up how fast it leaves.
If you're drinking for the enjoyment of the alcohol buzz too, not being able to take so much is a good idea, you end up getting that buzz faster and paying less for the priviledge.
Mega vitamin B tablets and a Lt of water before you sleep.
that should take care of it
If your still bad in the morn, eggs and Panadol/Tylenol should take off the edge
Red'd for an awful idea. Never mix acetaminophen and alcohol. It's a good way to cause some very critical liver failure. If you want to take anything for a hangover go with ibuprofen or something without the aforementioned acetaminophen.
For every standard unit of alcohol (1 beer glass with beer, 1 wine glass with wine, etc) your body needs about 1 hour to get it out of your system, there is nothing you can do to speed this up.
I have been drinking from the ripe old age of 15, thanks to the drugslaws in the Netherlands.
And I have seen my share of drunk faceplants, crowdsurfing sans crowd, fights, stomach pumps, beer mixed with drugs induced coma's etc. So I have learned not to drink to get drunk.
Picking up women is a lot harder when drunk.
But anyway eat fat food before you start to drink. Alternate alcohol with water. And drink a lot of water when you get home. At least 4 or 5 glasses of water and maybe a fat latenight/early morning snack.
Dont have early appointments, because you might still be drunk and wont be able to drive a car.
I'm 29 now and can barely drink the amounts I used to. Its all about quality instead of quantity now.
You'll still be hungover if you go out drinking like a fish, but a few things I've found work.
Eating before hand. No not the salsa and chips they brought out, a solid dinner like a Sub from Jimmy Johns.
Drinking water while drinking, or even gatorade. Not in a mixer, as a seperate entity.
When you go to bed have something with stuff to replenish you later. IE Gatorade for each time you wake up to go pee, or just wake up from being that drunk, drink some.
I find Vitamin Water Revive to be very useful the next day too, mostly for the Potassium.
