I really love the Steam special bonus megaultradrive(TM) package for pre-ordering.
But do we think the controls will end up feeling like a crappy port of a 360 game? Mass Effect PC was an awesome idea, but ended up playing horribly and being glitchy as all get out.
The first Bioshock played flawlessly on my PC, with the advantage of having kbam controls. However I also had no problems with the ME PC version, save for the one texture bug they've since fixed, so your mileage may vary.
Man, that 4 pack is real tempting, but I just don't know about this game. Feels like they're trying to make it more mainstream, more louder.
I'm curious how it would look on PC: For any of you guys doing the 4-pack deal but already own the original Bioshock, would you kindly gift it to me? I'll be sure to return the favor for someone else should I decide to get in on this.

Primoman (currently Captain Sunshine)
Also, I've got a gift copy of Half Life 2 for anyone who hasn't played it yet and would like an even trade.

I actually never played HL2. I accept your offer. SteamID is pmalchezaar, I'll add you when I get home today (around 6:30 pm EST).
Note: People in the Austin, Texas Area! There will be Rapture-themed goings-on similar to the previous Splicers Unite!! events around the USA (which usually means free swag and some cosplaying people) at Wooldridge Park on the 23rd of January at noon. Cocktail party to follow.

Sweet. I already sent you an invite, so I'll gift you once you're home.
I'm already playing the game a second time on Xbox (for achievements) but I'm curious how my PC runs it. If it turns out it runs "really damn well", I might bite on the Bioshock 2 offer.

I'm a little put off by this "Ability to save game, earn achievements, receive title updates and online play requires log-in to Games for Windows LIVE". Do they mean that you just need an account, which can be offline, like DoW II? Or do they mean you have to log in just to save your game?
I might hold off on buying this and send an email to Take Two because of SecuROM. I enjoy my rootkit-free computer.
Personally, I'm no fan of SecuROM, and I'm not one to rally behind its being harmless. However I'm pretty sure that it isn't a rootkit. At least not in its latest incarnation.
I'm not discounting the possibility that it will fuck with your computer / gaming experience, keeping you from using software you legitimately purchased for ridiculous reasons. I just don't think it's a rootkit.
Because SleepingLesson returned someone called iwishiwasaj3di who hasn't been on steam in almost a year...? Is that you?
No, sorry. I think you had to type in "Sleeping_Lesson", but I'm not sure.
In any case, I already purchased and gifted the four-pack. Sorry, I just tend to be impatient with that sort of stuff and I was getting PMs left and right.

On the official 2K forums a moderator said something to the effect of GFWL operating in the same manner as Batman: AA, and that SecuROM was to be used as "only a disk-check method for the retail copy."
I don't know what that means, exactly. Is the Steam version considered non-retail? Also, the 'disk-check' incarnation of SecuROM doesn't seem to be as awful as the previous ones, but I realize that's a matter of opinion. Regardless, sometime soon they've promised to release more details about the Steam version. It may not be as bad as envisioned.
I just can't imagine playing BioShock not on a PC, but that's just me.

I dunno, that makes it sound like Steam won't have to deal with SecuROM, and GFWL isn't scary (just a big pile of non-working crap).
On another note, two of my IRL friends and I want to go in on a four-pack...anyone want the fourth slot?
GFWL now has a install limit feature. So basically instead of Securom limiting your installs, GFWL will.
True, they said 15 activations. The thing I wonder about that: Does that mean that you can activate the game on your GFWL account as many times as you want? So if, say, I have the GFWL account 'JoeyJoeJoe JoeBob', can I install the game as many times as I want under that account? Will I only use up a second activation if I try to install the game under a second account, like say with the account name "Shabadoo"? Or will "JoeyJoeJoe JoeBob" use up a second activation on reinstallation? I'm wondering if it works like Steam in that regard, tying games to accounts...
I realize GFWL is a broken pile of garbage, but as a slight benefit, at least it doesn't tell me what software I can and can't run on my computer.

That's a very large muzzle they're putting on the game.
Also, moving the system requirements over to the OP for easy viewing.
Pretty excited for this game, could be really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one. First played it on 360, then built a new PC and have been playing it there.
I'll be getting 2 on PC as it will also have achievements and no other reason not to.
I really love how they've melted the Sequel and Prequel stuff. Where the SP Story is Sequel, and the MP is the Prequel, showing the destruction on NYE 1959.
EDIT: Does anyone want to get in on the 4-pack on Steam to save some $$$?

You make a good point, but there is too much sense in your point for it to be used as DRM. What exactly is the point of install limit DRM when you have the game linked to an account?
The first one is one of the few games I've run into DRM issues with, I regret not waiting for the PS3 port (even though it was suppose to be lackluster), basically they've killed this game on the PC for in all but the super cheap category.

Count me as number 3. 34 bucks is an insanely good deal. I'll paypal you the money once we get it all together?
We're still waiting on one more guy before I pull the trigger, but paypal works great.

I keep thinking Matrix Reloaded in the back of my head
I'll wait for reviews but I hope for the best and fear for the worst
It was alright for the first while in Bioshock 1...then it got tedious but at least that achievement for 50 hacked items held me over.
Then I just started shooting stuff I couldn't autohack.
Huh.
Interesting location, since I thought 2k Austin was done for. I may have to check that out.
I actually loved the minigame but thats because I love that type of game.
There's no fucking Ocean there. WTF.

Fighting off 100 Andrew Ryans with a lead pipe.
That would be epic.
