Fuck me, my Xbox DVD drive is dead

Okay!... So of course my DVD drive can't read any games anymore. For fuck sake, my first Xbox got stollen, my second one got the e74, Microsoft send me a "new" one and now it can't read games. Fuck!

I've had problem with it for a while now: when loading certain games (MW2 and Dragon Age), I had to close-open-close-open-close the DVD drive so that it would load the game. I heard that MW2 was causing this problem so I installed it on my hard drive. Yesterday I wanted to play NHL10, and it took me 4-5 tries before the console loaded the game. Played 2/3 of a game then it froze. Since then, it doesn't reconize (sp? bad english sorry!) any games disc I try. I will try DVDs tonight but I doubt it will work. The console wasn't hot or anything, and I have no problem playing xbox live games.

So... what do I do? The Xbox microsoft sent me is more than a year old, will they take it back? Is there a way to fix it even if I don't know anything about computers, chips and what not?

The 299$ Xbox elite is really tempting right now, but that's just throwing money at those responsible for the problem, no?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 'cause I pissed off right now!

Thx

i recently had this problem too, i posted a thread here

pretty much the verdict is your xbox is dying and you need to send it to microsoft.

but you can also try the things i did to fix mine for a short while

Doesn't Microsoft charge you somewhere around $100 to do an out of warranty repair?

You could always just buy a new Arcade for $200, then use the hard drive you've already got. Sell your broken system on craigslist for parts, as well as the new controller, and you're looking at probably $50-$60.

So, instead of paying $100 for a refurb/repair unit, you're paying $140-$150 for a brand new unit with the newest (and most reliable) chipset.

If I recall right, the three-year warranty only covers the "three rings of death" problem, not the DVD problem.

Supposedly there are local people out there who can fix 360s with this issue; I'm going to have to do that myself.
