(TWO!) Fuck me, my Xbox DVD drive is dead

Okay!... So of course my DVD drive can't read any games anymore. For fuck sake, my first Xbox got stollen, my second one got the e74, Microsoft send me a "new" one and now it can't read games. Fuck!

I've had problem with it for a while now: when loading certain games (MW2 and Dragon Age), I had to close-open-close-open-close the DVD drive so that it would load the game. I heard that MW2 was causing this problem so I installed it on my hard drive. Yesterday I wanted to play NHL10, and it took me 4-5 tries before the console loaded the game. Played 2/3 of a game then it froze. Since then, it doesn't reconize (sp? bad english sorry!) any games disc I try. I will try DVDs tonight but I doubt it will work. The console wasn't hot or anything, and I have no problem playing xbox live games.

So... what do I do? The Xbox microsoft sent me is more than a year old, will they take it back? Is there a way to fix it even if I don't know anything about computers, chips and what not?

The 299$ Xbox elite is really tempting right now, but that's just throwing money at those responsible for the problem, no?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 'cause I pissed off right now!

Thx

File for an RMA? Or just dump Xbox for PS3 on hardware reliability concerns alone? Not really sure what else to say.

Wow, you're describing exactly what mine did. I had that same problem with mine for about 3 months until it finally red-ringed. I sent it in, and they sent me a refurb xbox that, after a few weeks, shockingly started having the same problem. I traded it in at gamestop for $100 on Friday and got an elite. It's definitely just throwing money at the problem, but I needed an xbox that worked damnit! Honestly though, that's probably going to be your best choice. You can limp that one along until it dies, or get 80-100 bucks at gamestop for it toward your elite.

Wait, what? You sold a broken Xbox to Gamestop for a a hundred bucks? That sound fucking fantastic. Gamestop are still called EBgames here in Montréal, I sure hope they do that too. But... why would they? For spare pieces??
