Is SOCOM Confrontation (PS3) worth picking up nowdays?

A friend gave me a $20 PSN card for Christmas and I've been looking for something to use it on. I've got most of the good "small" games, so I was looking at the bigger games that were pricier, like Warhawk and SOCOM. I hear Warhawk is relegated only to experts nowdays, has many pricey expansions, and a sequel is probably going to be announced sometime soon (Starhawk or something like that). So I've been eyeing SOCOM, which is $30. Does anyone know how the community is, and whether the game itself is pretty fun in the first place? I hear a lot of it's problems have been fixed with all of it's patches, but I can't find any good opinions on this. I already have the official PS3 mic, so communication with team-mates isn't a big problem. Any opinions on the Cold Front expansion that was released recently would be appreciated too.
