Replica movie prop/weapons

Are there any companies that would commission the creation of replica movie prop?

I've tried asking WETA, but received no response at all.

I'm looking to get a replica made of the Bow that Neytiri used in the latter half of the Avatar movie

Example here

I really have no idea where else to turn. If I could get a 3d model file of the bow, I could explode it and print it in sections, make a fiberglass model of it, but I don't have a 3d model of it either. Would like to find a company to pay to make a replica of it :O

One off jobs like that are insanely expensive. What kind of costs were you hoping to have?

Just wait a little while. I'm sure the market will be saturated with them sooner than later.

I'd be willing to pay anywhere from $1k to $4 or 5k.

I had made a replica Master Chief helmet back when Halo 3 came out using a 3d model, printed out a Papercraft version of it and fiberglassed it from there... I could do the same with the Bow model but again, none, and I don't have the 3d modelling finesse to make my own

This. There are a few companies out there that make licensed, replica weapons, and with Avatar's popularity some are sure to pop up.

Seriously biting my tongue here, but more power to you.

Just wait. Replicas will start popping up shortly.

Just purely out of curiosity, why?

That is an insane amount of money to pay for something. Do you just want it to hang up on your wall?

Pretty much. I absolutely fell in love with the design of it, and think it would be a beautiful piece of art to own and display.

In the short term, why not challenge yourself by building one?

I have no grasp, creatively, on where or how I would start. I don't know how to shape or carve wood, I don't know how to paint, I don't know how to apply leather trim or anything of the sort. I would have zero idea how to create some of the intricate designs. I'd much rather spend some extra money to have one created that has an ideal quality consistency, than have me try and try and try and only become frustrated with mediocre if not flat out poor results.

I think the average already-made movie prop goes for $50,000 at the cheapest. Making one might be more costly than that.

yea maybe if it was covered in gold leaf and filled with jewels. Unless you mean a prop that was used in the film then yea, collectors could drive the cost of some of those props through the roof if it was popular enough.

The SkyMall catalog always has a page with replica movie props--Lord of the Ring-rings, Indiana Jones whips, Harry Potter wands, Da Vinci Code-code thingies. If there's any market at all for something like this, it'll be in there.

    See? http://www.skymall.com/shopping/search.htm?action=GoToPage&SearchHandle=Qz0xfkQ9NDh_RT0wXjFeMl5TYWxlc1ByaW9yaXR5fkc9NTkyNl4yXjgyNV4yfkk9UHJpY2V_Sz00fkw9MX5NPTJ_Tj00fg&PageSettings=&Page=0&pIndexRefresh=no

Aside from the fact that it was probably a completely digital bow, if the bow ever did exist as a prop they had several made. This is ridiculous.

You might want to contact a sculptor/artisan.

another place for some fun replicas is Side Show Collectibles http://www.sideshowtoy.com/

they seem to have some rights to do Avatar stuff, but they only have like 1 item available. Pricey stuff on there, but some is really worth it. Need me that all metal Terminator head that lights up and crud
