How are you California folks holding up? We've talked to a few of our people in LA who are already evacuating due to all of the fucked up weather that you guys aren't quite prepared for...
And Tornados! I think I saw something about this in the entirely factual Day After Tomorrow...
But seriously, I grew up around tornados. It was a crapshoot if they ever hit anything worth a damn besides fucking up crops. I can't really imagine what would happen to a bunch of people who a) aren't accustomed to tornados and b) are packed together so tightly per square mile that sardines make fun of them.
My street was flooded about knee deep and the drain in front of my house was spewing water geyser style about three feet in the air. I saw a dog having the time of his life running around in the water and wind.
LA traffic is so much fun already - add some rain into the mix, and it becomes a fucking bonanza! Whooooooo! Never thought these long commutes could get even more fun!
It's been pissing it down pretty much all day for the past few days
the power's gone out twice now, though thankfully today it wasn't out as long (probably because the outage affected more than just a few houses this time)

The main road is blocked here so getting anywhere is going to take an extra 15 minutes or so.
Last night we spent at least half an hour stuck in traffic just trying to get to the main road to figure that out, and had to spend another 15 minutes finding another way in
So today storm 3 moved in, and brought with it a couple of mins. of hail. HAIL! I haven't seen it hail here in forever!
Anyway, things aren't bad here in Santa Monica/West LA compared to most of the rest of the city. Of course, it's crazy that Long Beach and Orange County to the south had to go through a tornado warning yesterday. The first two storms were funny because they calmed down at mid-afternoon. In fact, we had to go to downtown yesterday to watch a hockey game and were totally surprised to see that there was really light traffic at rush hour because of the rain (we had expected the trip to take 3 times as long.) Let's see if this one can last a whole day.

driving around San Diego is a freaking nightmare right now because Californians don't know how to deal with rain.
no kind granny, you don't have to drive 2 miles per hours because the road is slightly moist. and no, douchebag-in-a-BMW, you don't have to drive 100 miles per hour and cut off every other driver for that same reason.
back in the northeast we'd call this a Wednesday! and i'm not saying that just because it's actually Wednesday!

also it was windy as hell this morning
I heard that Stanford was having power issues too. I haven't lost power once, though.
Also, coming from an area of the country that actually has weather on a routine basis, I have to say I'm not impressed by all this. Though apparently there's actually a tornado warning for southern Santa Clara County, which is the first one I've seen out here. Haven't seen anything that says there's actually a tornado on the ground, though.
Thought it was going to be much worse than it has been so far. I guess the real rain hits us tomorrow? I dunno.
Also, does anyone live in Torrance or nearby? Because I have serious sympathy.
I'm in Torrance. Why the sympathy? Yeah it's raining and people are idiots, but all in all, it's not really that bad.
Well maybe they've upgraded the city's runoff system then. Because when I used to live there the streets would get hella flooded anytime it rained for longer than a day.

Mud slides are a huge deal. It's always a concern whenever there is a heavy raining season here.

heh, douche in a bmw was probably my boss or coworker
A large tree was uprooted due to the storms and crashed down on the main road of the little town I'm in, which effectively split the city in half until they were able to move the thing. Yesterday was also garbage day so all the people who were out of their homes during the day came home to find that their cans were halfway down the block.
I guess one tree fell on a trailer and killed a lady. That kind of stuff depresses me. People joke about Californians freaking out by the rain, but the little amount that we actually get it really out to cause some damage. My voice teacher had to cancel all of her lessons while they pack stuff up in case of mudslides. Her house was destroyed by them a few years ago, and any time it even drizzles now she is on edge.
I'm supposed to do an audition in North Hollywood tomorrow and it is actually a little scary thinking that I have to drive through some bad shit to get up there.

We're suppose to get over an inch here today. It's really gonna have to pick it up to make half of that.
Delta once again ran up one of their phat, round, thick ass vessels in da sky again.
aren't most californians afraid of and confused by snow?

We're so shocked we enjoy ourselves.

snow in the desert... so weird
That seems crazy. Like people that haven't seen an ocean.

Well if you live in a fire zone it's a good thing right

Only if the fire is actually, you know, there at the time

rain is serious. a serious thing.
Well how am I to know what you guys do down there
i've been in a lot of stormy places and never had to deal with mudslides
