Today's storm hasn't been nearly as bad as the last couple
But I don't think the fire damaged hills care about the intensity at this point

Yeah, after we went and spent a couple of hours trying to prepare this place for the kind of deluge we got yesterday, the storm had to go and be a tease. In fact the sun was shining by 1 pm and I was looking at patches of blue sky. Supposedly we're supposed to get another wave tonight and into tomorrow, but I'm not seeing it on the radar.

I'm from SoCal and a total weather ninny but I think my fellow Californian residents are flustering up a big mess out of this. It has rained harder and colder before.

    Flustering? Is that correct?

I don't think it counts as exaggeration when your house is destroyed by mud and your children are washed out to sea.

There hasn't been this level of flooding or mudslides though.

California's going to wash away into the sea before any earthquake can break it off.

That was always the thing I was scared of in school. They taught us about earthquakes and stuff, and talked about how California is expecting to eventually break off and sink, and every day I'd go home and make sure I had a bathing suit ready in case it happened today.

Surprisingly good weather while I was on the road today. My church job is cancelled for the night because they don't want to risk people having to be out if the storm comes back. Extra time for masturbation or something I guess

So the coastal communities are getting it pretty bad? Where I'm at it is just wet and gloomy.

But people really shouldn't be building their homes on the edges of mountaintops like a reclusive super-villain. In wet weather it just ain't a good idea.

Maybe you should watch the news and see that the valleys and cities inland are flooded with debris and runoff.

Muse, the problem for a lot of these areas is poor drainage and loose soil from the severe wildfires we had last year
Wildfires that only recently have become more severe every year
Along with huge downpours for four days straight
This isn't a "serves people right" situation

I haven't watched much local news to be honest, and most of the news I have watched has treated it rather lightly. News anchors chatting and making light jokes.

Ooh! I was wearing one of those rain-click jackets today; it is warm and dry and has this faux fur trim. A lot of kids were wearing something similar. I then realize the trim has a purpose; the rain-slick hoods that cover down to your forehead would just drip; the 'fur' absorbs the moisture. I'd never really thought about it before but it makes sense.

Silly, but I felt happy at the thought.

I don't think anyone should have lost their house, but I always thought the practice was suspect. It just never seemed safe; I've been through those mountains and I know the soil isn't very tightly packed. I was/am surprised it is even allowed. Mudslides are exactly what came to my mind. That or wild-fires, because these houses are often surrounded by brush and the fire-trucks would have so much trouble getting to them since the roads/pathways are narrow and twist so much.

Orange county does not get tornadoes every year
The water doesn't get five feet high in San Pedro every year

Considering that California gets hot, humid weather, earthquakes and wild fires, I wonder why people say it has great weather or that it is a great place to live. I mean . . . it is okay, but I'm sure there are plenty of nicer areas at more affordable prices.

A few years ago we had 31 days of rain straight, at about this time.
It got kinda gloomy for awhile but didn't break the record for most days in a row of rain.
