That's the Sega Genesis Collection, not the Sonic Mega Collection Plus.

Apparently it was the Japanese version of Gems Collection that contained the Streets of Rage titles. My mistake.

Ah yes... I forgot about that. I tend to forget about the Sonic PC releases as they come out way after the console versions. Did it have unlockable Game Gear titles on the PC version?
    Yes.
Not that I bothered, owning Mega Collection by now.

Its on SMC GC. I remember as it had the retarded unlocking mechanism of having to start and close a game so many times in order to unlock the 'hidden' games. Ristar was last on the list. You had to open and close each game 30 times in oder to unlock it.

I know I'm beat, but I'm going to post still. I hated unlocking Ristar... I remember it taking about an hour of opening and closing games in order to unlock it.

The GC version of Sonic Adventure every gamegear sonic game on it - including some that cannot be played any other way - they're not on sonic gems or sonic megacollection + (the PS2 version). The only downside to this is you have to play all the missions in Sonic Adventure DX, and.. well, some of those invlove big the cat. Still, with SADX, any version of sonic mega collection and sonic gems, you can own all sonic games of the pre-3D era.

I'll agree the GBA ones are decent, but not perfect. The level design can be frustratingly flawed. Same goes for Sonic Rush, I enjoyed it but admit some of the levels just plain suck.

Do not touch any of the 3D sonics aside from either sonic adventure game. They all range from "bad" to "as much pain as stabbing youself in the eye".

It was possible, if you took a wrong turn, to get stuck on the sand slides in the middle of the level. The looping ones.

I had a ton of time-outs on that stage, just trying to work out how to get off those never-ending conveyors of sand-y madness.

Oh yeah. You could get off that easily. Just had to jump on the right incline.

Now the barrel in Casino Nights...*shudder*

I only recently bought Sonic Rush, and I think it is the best Sonic game I've played since the MegaDrive/Genesis originals.

The rails tricks and music make me think of it as "Jet Grind Sonic", but it has the real Sonic necessities: speed, fast-twitch gameplay, and devious level design.

It alone gives me some hope for Sonic Team, since I'm yet to see a 3D Sonic that doesn't make me feel physically ill.

Oh, you bastard. How dare you bring up long forgoten memories. :(

Do you have any idea how long I spent jumping up and down on that thing. Thinking it was a timing issue.

The only time I beat it as a kid, I had to bring in my sister to play as tails, and we spent a good couple of hours timing our jumps, to lower that thing enough for me to slip thru.

Edit: Also, in regard to Sandopolis Act 2. There is also a room, when playing knuckles that you can have some problems with.

The room is entered from the bottom left. a wall of spikes on the right, with a small path above them. You had to place knuckles at just the right spot to jump up and glide above the wall spikes, which of course, were fatal.

Well, since the old-school Sonics have no small amount of testimony going for them, I'll play devil's advocate for a bit and back up Sonic Adventure 1 + 2.

I liked the stories, beautiful graphics, and the final Sonic/Shadow level of SA2 is just straight hardcore.

    Also, awesome music.
[spoiler:756b0af87a]And I liked playing as the extra characters in SA1. Yes, even Amy and Big.[/spoiler:756b0af87a]

Sonic Heroes: interested in, but no big hurry.
Shadow: bought on a whim, since it was on sale.
    It does indeed suck.

So guys, I got the Sonic Mega Collection. Remember how awesome it was the first time you played Super Mario Bros. 3? Well, this is not quite that awesome. But it's still pretty awesome for me in the grand scheme of things.

One thing I don't understand is why Sonic 3D Blast looks so much better than the other games, graphically speaking. These are all Genesis games, right?

I would assume so, as I certainly don't believe it's the Saturn version.

Also, I can't remember if this was said already or not, but figure out how to unlock Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Sonic 3 + Sonic & Knuckles combined) before actually sitting down to play either of them individually. You'd only be getting half a game.

I'd be jumping up and down on it for ever and ever thinking it was a matter of timing!

I got the game when I was eight, and I didn't find out the trick to the barrel until I was nineteen. That barrel haunted me for most of my life.

And all I had to do was press down on the D-pad!

I've been playing through S3&K lately and I forgot how fun it was.

Getting 7 Emeralds before Mushroom Hill is awesome because then you can turn into Super Sonic and Wreck. Shit. Up. All bosses go down in five seconds. Cheap as hell but fun.
Also, secret levels should be accessed either through a hidden passage like in S3&K or 50 rings like in the older games. Sonic Advance 3 had some bullshit Chao collecting thing and it was annoying as all hell.

    Rush was awesomesauce though.

Sonic Advance 3's method was bad, but Advance 2's was worse... you had to collect 7 medallions in a level and finish without dying. Then you got to try the special stage, which if you fucked up, you had to go back and collect the medallions again. In the end, I couldn't be fucked.
Rush was pretty good in it's special stage system, albeit a little to easy to get there, I felt it should have required more Rush energy then it did. Still, the special stages were aweseome to make up for that.

I just bought the Sonic Mega Collection myself. I've already finished Sonic 2 and Sonic 3. Sonic 3 really is a lot easier than I remember. For the first time ever, I just used the up/down buttons on the barrel in Carnival Night zone. It took me just a couple of seconds.

I have to say too, Super Sonic is awesome. So cheap, yet so fun. Completely and utterly worthless in Wing Fortress Zone though.

I remember spending a large part of my childhood messing around with the debug mode? Giving myself thousands of rings while constructing a mini obstacle course was always fun.
