Thanks for that shotty soldier build I was able to get to round 3 before going stupid and getting killed by f'ing 9 toes of all people. I would have tried again but it was getting close to 24 time.

The build seriously made it easier and I had a lot more survivability + killing power. Now I just need a better couple shottys.

Has Steam ever had Borderlands for their Deal of the Week? Or do they no longer do that?

Not that I know of (and I've been watching.) They had discounts for pre-purchase and for buying a 4-pack, with those deals coming back if I remember correctly around the DLC release.

Hopefully they'll offer discounts again when the third DLC comes out (no date yet.) They have been so inexplicably piss poor about announcing dates for PC releases of things that, well, I just don't know.

Well considering the game sold a lot more on consoles I can see why the pc is the step child to the console release schedule.

Sure, but that's a reason to get the XBox DLC out the door first. It's not a reason to maintain strict radio silence on when or even sometimes if the DLC will come to PC.

    Bunch of freaking submariners.

Plus, you know, residual teeth-knashing over the "we're building it for the PC first" load of bull from that interview last summer. knash knash knash

Meh, I think PC people need to realize they lost the console war and are at best a second hand thought. You get higher resolutions and more annoying multi player net connection bullshit, consoles get consistent info on release dates and easier to use multi. Anyone believing a developer about anything being PC first need only look at Dragons Age.

I finished playthru 2 last night. (finally)

I still don't get how people can kill the final boss so fast. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or my weapons just suck.
I did figure out to shoot him in his silver eye for instant crits, but even then it still took a long time. I completely ran out of assault rifle ammo. My turret seemed to do the most damage with the fire mod. Unfortunately, I didn't have any fire based weapons. Is there something I'm missing? Or are other people just lying about killing him in 2 clips?

I must have shitty luck when it comes to weapon drops. For my soldier my best finds have been a machine gun with 200 damage, 90 acc, and a 31 round clip with some recoil reduction. I got it at level 34 and never found a better replacement all the way to level 50. Same with a Volcano sniper rifle I found at about the same level. The shotguns I'm seeing posted here are mythical to me.

Edit: I can't tell the difference between the quote and spoiler button.

Has anyone played with the Modecai Hunter/Bloodwing tree? I'm only level 32 and all my points are in snipers because I love them. I got one of the "Big Tony says Hi" repearter pistols and gave that spec a shot and it was nasty too.

Are there "best" specs yet? I don't play to max or min but if there is some talent that I don't think sounds good and it's really amazing or if I'm using a talent that isn't that great I'd want to know.

It's pretty hard to spec wrong enough that the game will be hard. If you do sidequests you'll be high enough level that, past mid-first playthrough, nothing will require you to min/max yourself very much.

Moxxi is a different beast, but rest assured, bird, sniper, and pistol are all viable for the normal game.

I was hesitant to try bird out, but then a friend and I were playing through, me as a support soldier, him as a bird hunter, and his bird's ability to kill 8 normal enemies and then pump him to full health once every few seconds taught me that birds are just fine.

I'm at 50 using lvl 5 fire mod, and bloodwing is - at best - mentally retarded. Plus, he doesn't seem to do enough damage to kill anybody. Is there a specific setup aside from impact, predator, etc.? a class mod maybe?

This is what I was worried about. I currently one shot enemies with my sniper rifle but my bird doesn't kill enemies in one shot so I have to shoot them anyway...

I'm talking about while you're playing through the game. Playthrough 2.5 you'll have to actually try for most enemies, and not many go down to a mild sneezing.

The skills you need to max are swift strike, aerial impact, bird of prey, and predator, and you need a ranger class mod. This will make your bloodwing hit many, many targets, and any that aren't killed will be left terrible by dazing. Seriously, daze basically removes the target from the fight. They're slow, they can't shoot anything, and what they do shoot comes out super slowly. There are few things more comedic than a rocket shot from a dazed enemy. They crawl through the air. The spec I'd go with is something like this, with the last 5 points spent wherever you feel like.

While doing playthrough 1/2, this will make your bird very capable of killing enemies (you'll need to switch elemental artifacts often) and give you a frequent-use daze. The bird's pathing is retarded, so beware in tight areas, but you'll eventually learn when to use the bird and when not to. If your bird goes retarded, just call him back. When he's coming back to you, he'll clip through buildings and obstacles. Half the time you'll be instantly killing people from a mile away with a revolver anyways, thanks to the accuracy bonus you and your team get from the ranger mod. Did I mention that the accuracy bonus to your team from that mod will combine with other hunters, soldiers, and sirens incredibly well? A SMG siren or machine gun soldier with a Ranger on their team are insane.

I don't think this spec is really the min/max sort that will win at Moxxi or breeze through playthrough 2.5 bosses, but what it is is a hell of a lot of fun through your first and second playthroughs. It plays like a somewhat worse pistol hunter with a murderous area effect attack in waiting for when it's needed. Once you get to the point where you have points in predator, you don't even need to think of bloodwing as a cooldown, more like something to be spammed while you run around double-shotting people in the brainmeats.

I'm pretty sure the only action skill that holds up super-well in the very endgame is Phasewalk, and it does that by virtue of it being a pause button on the battle with health regen, time for your shields to recharge, and the ability to reposition yourself, not the damage it deals.

I just got level 50 on my Hunter and holy christ, that bird fucking decimates the opposition. Equip a hunter class mod and a level 4 or 5 explosive artifact. You'll use maybe a third of your regular ammo count.
Also, I think I may be retarded, because I see everyone going on about leveling up certain skills, such as swift strike, aerial impact, etc. I thought you could only modify them through class mods? If not, I need to fucking level some shit up.

So, this may be more of a general Steam question, but I'm interested in getting the 4-pack of Borderlands and giving one of the keys to my brother.

He's in Iraq, though, with absolutely atrocious download speed and a heinous bandwidth cap. Is there a way for me to download it off of Steam, bundle it up, and send it to him such that he can then activate it with his own key? And will this work on the DLC, as well?

Thanks for helping out my ign'ance.

Heh while I have it for the PC I'm playing on the 360. But the build was good enough. The problem with turret builds (at least for solo arena) is that it doesn't come up enough/do enough damage to help you survive the bastards. Where as going with a more hardy build lets you slug it out in some ugly situations.

yeah, it's super-disappointing that turret gets so useless on the second playthrough. i really hated how an entire action skill lost its value in comparison to say, siren or hunter, whose skills at 50 just get more awesome. that said, shotguns are great :^:

I have to say the moxie expansion was worth it just to hear her comments between rounds, I hope she's included in a bigger story oriented download later.

A PA poster in the "New Comic" thread from this past Monday (1/25) was saying her husband is focus tester for Gearbox and knew all sorts of stuff about the upcoming DLC which she couldn't tell us (Grrr.) She did say that he said that Moxxi is Scooter's Mom though (top post here on page 9). So if we believe that, maybe we know that because it's in the 3rd DLC? Dunno. We can hope. (I'm not sure I want Moxxi to be Scooter's Mom, but there you go.)

There's supposed to be more DLC info on Mikey's twitter later today.

Heh, that's funny that moxi would be scooters mom, though not what I would expect from someone who's girl parts are ruined.

Scooter's in New Haven, not at Lucky's. He's not sitting on a toilet. (Is he...?)
