-Metal Gear Solid 4, but only if you're already a fan and have played 1-3 (if you haven't played 1-3, pick up the collection for PS2 and then see if you like 'em)
I played the first game and loved it, then I played the second and was less than impressed. I never played 3 and I've heard that 4 is good but very confusing. Is it even worth playing through 3 if I've already played 1 & 2?
Pretty sure all the exclusives have been covered but still have to light the Slash signal (but not sure when it was updated last.)
As for games not already listed multiple times...

-Trash Panic (PSN) is a fun/destructive little puzzle game. Difficult and(but?) cheap.
I used to use TVersity but the PS3 is doing a good job keeping up with codecs so I started using just a usb key. I now have a NAS with upnp streaming for all my media goodness. However, as far as I know the PS3 still can't handle HD codecs (Avid DNxHD?). Although I can't verify.

I was in the exact same situation. It is not confusing, but you will no doubt get more out of it if you know all the backstory. It is still an awesome game.

MGS3 is a great game. In my opinion, the best of the series. I also really enjoyed 4, though more from the "there are lots of different ways to handle any given situation and lots of little easter eggs" than the story.
I love Survival Horror. System Shock 2 is my favorite game of all time. I also really liked Dead Space and the first three Silent Hill games. Not so big on Resident Evil, but it's probably just the immersion-breaking "find the crests to continue" gameplay.
MGS... is the PS2 the only way to play MGS3? I can't buy any games for that system until my backlog is finished.
Will a Harmony remote work instead of a Blu-Ray remote?
I ask because I've got like 4 remotes already, adding one that automatically turns my PS3 on whenever the kids get hold of it is a frightening prospect
You can change the settings on the PS3 so that it turns off after a certain period of inactivity.
My wife would constantly turn the system on by hitting some button on the remote, and I would come home from work to see that the system had been on for the last 6 hours. I have it set for 30 minutes but I think you can go as low as 10.

BTW, VC is 20 bucks at Gamestop. New, if you don't want to give them the used game satisfaction. I only played the demo but I can see it getting super hard and annoying, like Advance Wars or FFTA.
Nah, its neither super hard or annoying. (Only a couple of battles that really give people trouble, just remember to save often during long battles) The worst part is the cliche anime bullshit, but honestly the is a hell of a lot less talking and crap in VC then most other JRPGs. And you can usually speed up the talking by hitting a button. There are lots of interesting characters in your group with neat backstories so you might come to find you don't mind it anyway. But the real star of VC is the combat. (I hate most JRPGs, but loved VC)
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

One game I haven't seen anyone recommend is Gravity Crash. I've only played a few levels, but it seems like fun. Giant Bomb did a good quick look on it a few weeks ago:
Okay, so I went and got my PS3. I also got Valkyria Chronicles, AC2, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 1&2, InFamous and 2 $20 cards. In addition to all that, I preordered Heavy Rain.
Aaaaand I still have around $200 left. Geez, I would've been happy with half of what I got.

Yes. With an adapter. That costs as much as a Harmony One.
Perhaps I can borrow this thread to ask for a recommendation of my own.
My 2 friends and I are playing the hell out of Borderlands right now. What are some other 3 player games we could get into? We've already played MUA2, Sacred 2 wasn't really that good.
Any 3 player co-op or competitive games on the horizon? FPS or Action or anything I should look out for?

But, if you are after mere parlor tricks, you will be sorely disappointed. For if I reach behind your ear, it will not be a nickel I pull out, but your very soul!

White Knight Chronicles has a 4 player online co-op mode that lets you build a town as your hub.
But if you're looking for a mindless shooter, I think Lost Planet 2's really the only one coming out soon that fits.
So... I think I found out why I can't seem to enjoy my PS3.
I have monster hands, and still only have the SIXAXIS controllers. Ugh. Does anyone know where I can find a good DS3 controller for cheap? I prefer the official one unless you guys suggest something else.

How does Sacred 2 compare to say the PS2 Baldur's Gate games? I've been waiting for this one to get a price drop but it was on my radar.
Coop games I play the hell out of would be...
Rock Band
Uncharted 2
Borderlands
(soon to be) MAG
As for upcoming the only one I can think of that I'll be investigating is White Knight Chronicles although some of the Dark Cloud comparisons are deterring me since I didn't care for that one.
Scratch that, Lego Harry Potter is a definite purchase for the better-half.
Fucking cunts. What's the point of having more than one controller for consoles anymore?
Lego games, LBP, split-screen Borderlands, Sacred 2. I'd be nostalgic about the good ol' days but the only local 2 player games I remember playing as a kid were the likes of Contra, Superspike VBall, and Blades of Steel. I don't count Mario because I can still play pass the controller with Ratchet and Clank.
So... I think I found out why I can't seem to enjoy my PS3.

Um, I'm pretty sure the Dual Shock 3 controllers are the same size as the SIXAXIS controllers.

Yes. And the weight difference is negligible.
I disagree, the dual shock is noticeably heavier, which I much prefer. Feels like it has some heft, but I used to prefer the old xbox controllers over their new ones for the same reason.
The same PS3 game recommendations will get trotted out, so I won't bother. But get yourself some good blu rays - Planet Earth, for example, to make you really enjoy HD films. And a blu ray remote - that's really the only accessory you'll need, at all. Unless you want a bluetooth mic for online gaming.
Suggestions for movies that look incredible on Blu-Ray are welcome as well.
I dont know if your a LOST fan, but LOST is one of the top examples of excellent blu-ray HD visuals.

All SIXAXIS controllers are subject to a bug from the early production days of the PS3's controllers. When this bug takes effect, the inputs for that controller become locked in their current state for a few seconds, like the controller is no longer transmitting. This can and will kill you. The only way to prevent this is to play with the controller connected to the PS3 via the mini USB port.
Save a life. Buy a Dual Shock.
(I have 2 sixaxis controllers, both do this, as do the 5 sixaxis that my group of friends who also own PS3s)

this isn't true. i'm pretty sure it's limited to the very first batch of sixaxes - i have a couple from PAL launch and neither have ever been problematic

For instance.... Final Fantasy Tactics? I own the original disc if that matters.
This could be a console-selling question.
The PS3 can play any PS1 discs that you have. No reason to download anything.

Oh, shows what I know. Interesting. Thanks.

If Survival Horror is at all your thing, it's excellent.

It's kind of similar in gameplay to PixelJunk Shooter, which I also recommend. I really, really enjoyed PixelJunk Shooter.
Both are PSN games.

The whole thing reminds me of the first time I get a PS2, the graphics are even better than the 360
