I work in the back room at a Target and I can confirm that there are lots of PS3s to be had (at least in Connecticut). However we only showcase 3-4 on the sales floor and once one of them gets bought another gets pulled from the back room and put in the freshly created empty space. I'd imagine Best Buy and other such retailers do the same. Probably for asset security reasons but if you ask me it makes the PS3 look like no one has been buying it and the same 3-4 have just been sitting there the past few weeks.

I built a fortress out of PS3 boxes during my 1 day a week at (insert B&M game store name here) from which I spout varying versions of "We have no wii's!" while cackling maniacally.
What that I'm affirming that there are Playstation 3's available when the latest news says they aren't as available as has been raved about prior? I'm not making a stab at Sony or anything, in fact I'll be sure to own a PS3 by the time FF13 releases...just not now because of the current lineup =P.
If it makes you feel better I did take a look over this area of the forums for a matching thread before I made my own so lighten up chief .

Oh hey thats what I tried to do but Best Buy was closed off by a giant wall of PS3's

People have been posting this same thing like 3 times week now. "OMG, the store has plenty of PS3s!!!!"
The reason they put so few out is because they are so damn big.
Also because it prevents people/dealers from being tempted to buy a lot and resell them.
I thought we moved beyond the point of eBay-idje though.
If we could only figure a way to extract the $900* of tech inside and sell that. With that scheme I'ma get rich, and quick!
*thats what they cost Sony, right?

The unprecedented demand for Sony's Emmy Award winning PS3 console is alarmingly evident.
Think of the USA as our beta testers. Hopefully some of the issues (especially the scaler problems) will be sorted out before it launches in Europe and Australia (and remember, it will cost ONE THOUSAND AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS).

Well, vaguelly on topic but I think the ebay sales are back in action, I've spotted a ton of people that must be picking up these spare ps3's and selling them over ebay to folks in the uk.
Most appear to be going for about £500 + p&p.
For that price, the person selling is making a profit and the person in the UK isn't at that much of a loss in comparison to the rumoured retail price!

You'd think that'd catch the attention of Sony's crack team of lawyers... you know, the guys that brought down Lik-Sang.

I dunno about nationally, but the local Walmart in Saint Helens, Oregon (I was there on christmas break until yesterday) had a couple PS3s in stock the entire time I was around. That was about three weeks.
Then again it's a small town in the middle of nowhere.

Went on a trip this weekend, and I stopped at three Wal-Marts in the middle of nowhere looking for a DS Lite. None there, and no Wiis either. But PS3s were plentiful, even at the Wal-Mart barely the size of a grocery store.
Then again I've only seen a couple of PS3s in Tulsa so far. Then again again I haven't really shopped at electronics places in three weeks.
There's no love lost between Sony and myself, but this whole "STACKS AND STAX THEY CAN'T GIVE EM AWAY LOLZ" anecdotal-evidence trend is just silly. Without the context of sales and inventory numbers, it's pretty worthless ammunition in what young hooligans call the "console war."
It seems to me that people bitched about "No PS3s are available, manufactured shortage!" and then cackled about "PS3 are available, no one wants to buy them!" You can't have it both ways.

Sony's not going to attack eBay, and going after individual eBay members isn't worth it. If it were a large importer (like, for example, PlayAsia), I'm sure their lawyers would be all over it.
As it is, I'm sure they're not happy about it ... there's just not much they can reasonably do about it aside from ask eBay nicely to shut down those sales and hope eBay sides with them.

I don't see why not.
It's entirely possible for a company to underproduce (be it an Elmo or PS3) upon launch to drive consumer demand. And then later crank up production to sell as many units as possible. There are two different time frames involved.

I'm not saying that's what happened, but it can.
Actually, I never believed there was a manufactured shortage. In fact, I think there are still less PS3's out there than Sony predicted or was promising.
the point is that I, at least, come at it from that mentality. The mentality that even with a shortage, the PS3's are piling up.
that is not good for a new piece of consumer electronics, as it only serves to drive the price down.

Yea, we know, we get it.
Nothing against this one, but so many Sony threads.

Man, I know. It's crazy. If only there were some sort of "super" or "hyper" thread we could put all the Sony stuff in.
(I'm kidding. Nothing like that would ever exist. It's a silly idea)
I tell you, if this PS3 is any indication, they're just not selling anywhere.
PS; search.
I think we can all handle a couple of repeat threads if it's the price for new forumers. Welcome to the boards Rouzuki.

Are new forumers a rare commodity? Is the forum population on a sharp decline?
Sony?
Perhaps we could breed.
The lack of females may produce a problem.

Believe me though, getting sellers information from ebay, even for legal purposes is an ABSOLUTE nightmare.
Unless Sony shut down ebay

Besides which, going after one fairly large buisness is simpler and less of a PR nightmare than going after a lot of independent operators.

The largest Target store in charlotte NC (sale wise) has had ps3s in stock for two weeks now.
