What we know so far (rumors in red):
-8(ish) new characters. T.Hawk, Dee-Jay, Juri, Adon, Guy, Cody, Dudley, Makoto, and Ibuki confirmed. Hakan or new character(s)?
-Not DLC. The game will be shipped on a physical disc.
-Not priced to a new game. $30-40?
-Brand new opening and closing videos for each character in an anime format.
-Not compatible with SF4 for online matches.
-Some 'bonus' for keeping your original SF4 disc. DLC costumes?
-Each character has three costumes confirmed. Will there be more? DLC, unlockable, require SF4 disc?
-Reworking of the online code.
-A team battle mode has been added. Up to 8 players are put into a room and divided into teams based on points. It's possible to have a 7v1 in this set-up!
-An 8 player "Endless Battle" online mode has been added. Players not fighting can spectate and comment via voice chat. No points are won/loss in this mode.
-Replays can always be saved.
-Replay channels have been added to watch and discuss matches with others.
-A tournament mode will be added later as DLC. Will allow 8 players, voice chat, save replays (even one's that you didn't play in), and offer titles for the winners.
-Nerfs/buffs to existing characters.
-Each character has two Ultra's now and are selected before a match begins.
-Roster unlocked from start. No unlocking required.
-All online modes will have blind select. The cursor sound has been removed as well.
-New intro song.
-Shipping April 28, 2010.

Lots of regular SF4 content:

Unlocking Characters
(all information taken from the Street Fighter Wiki)

Cammy Beat Arcade Mode with C. Viper.
Fei Long Beat Arcade Mode with Abel.
Gen Beat Arcade Mode with Chun-Li.
Rose Beat Arcade Mode with M. Bison.
Sakura Beat Arcade Mode with Ryu.
Dan Beat Arcade Mode with Sakura.
Akuma (see below).
Gouken (see below).
Seth Beat Arcade Mode with everyone.

To unlock Akuma as a playable character:
1. Unlock Cammy, Fei Long, Dan, Sakura, Rose, and Gen.
2. Pick a character you have already used to beat Arcade Mode.
3. Win all your matches without continuing and without losing any rounds before fighting with Seth.
4. You need to get at least one "perfect" win in a round, and more than one depending on how many rounds per match you are playing.
- 1 round match: 1 perfect round or more
- 3 round match: 2 perfect rounds or more
- 5 round match: 3 perfect rounds or more
- 7 round match: 4 perfect rounds or more
5. If you meet these conditions, Akuma will appear. Defeat him to unlock Akuma as a selectable character.

To unlock Gouken as a playable character:
1. Complete Arcade Mode playing as Akuma and watch (not necessary to watch everything) an ending.
2. Then, unlock Gouken as an opponent, and defeat him.
Necessary conditions to unlock Gouken as an opponent:
-Play with any characters with which you watched the ending once (so play using a character you have already beaten the game with)
-Do not continue at all.
-Do not lose at all. Not even one round (easier if you only play 1-round matches)
-Achieve certain number (or more) of "Perfect" rounds. The number of Perfect Win you need to achieve are:
If you play on:
1 round match: 1 time or more
3 round match: 2 times or more
5 round match: 3 times or more
7 round match: 4 times or more
-Achieve a certain number (or more) of Super Combo -OR- Ultra Combo Finishes. Super and Ultra finishes both count toward this number. The number of super/ultra finishes you need to achieve are:
If you play on
1 round match: 3 times or more
3 round match: 5 times or more
5 round match: 7 times or more
7 round match: 9 times or more
-Achieve certain number (or more) of First Attack (this means you must score the first strike in a match--the screen gives you the "First Attack" message, and you can mostly do this without even noticing):
If you play on
1 round match: 5 first attacks or more
3 round match: 10 first attacks or more
5 round match: 15 first attacks or more
7 round match: 20 first attacks or more
-Then Gouken will appear. Kick his butt to unlock him!

Alternate costumes
Each character has a different costume they can wear. The costumes are paid DLC and can be purchased in preset packs of five or in a bundle. Each pack individually is 320 MS points (or $4 each). The all-in-one pack is 1000 MS points (or $12). The costumes are for appearances only and don't grant the character any special attributes.

Character Stats
Each character is different in their moves, speed, and sizes but did you know that they also have different health, stun, dash, and jump values? The biggest difference between the characters is their health levels. The bigger, slower characters (Zangief, Rufus, etc) take more damage to KO while the smaller, faster characters (Chun Li, El Fuerte) take less damage to KO. The two powerful boss characters, Seth and Akuma, take a lot more damage than the rest of the cast due to their offensive abilities and options they have available to them. For a complete breakdown of the characters statistical differences, check out this link:

Online Play
Street Fighter IV has a few online modes that allow players from around the world to challenge each other in head to head battles. Here are some things you should know before jumping online:

-There are a multitude of skill levels for players online. You will run into new players and guys who have been playing Street Fighter for twenty years. Online is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.
-You can play either Ranked Matches, Player Matches, or enter Championship Mode.
-Ranked matches have you facing off against another opponent for the chance to earn Battle Points (BP). Your BP's will go up or down depending on whether you win or lose. The greater the BP levels are between the two players the greater or lesser the effect will be. If player levels are fairly close (say within 100 or so points) the gain/loss is around 30 or so points. BP levels are used as an approximation of skill, but some players have artificially raised their BP levels, so take any BP value with a grain of salt.
-Player matches are generally used to play people when statistics aren't a concern. A lot of good players can be found this way, probably more so than in Ranked mode. The biggest advantage of Player matches are that when a game is over, you go back to a lobby and can play the opponent again. This is the best way to play games with friends or fellow Penny Arcade people.
-Championship mode is a free DLC that was added after launch. This mode is for people who want to really step up their game and challenge better players. In this mode, you start by entering into the lowest level of tournaments and earn Grade Points (GP) to advance to higher level tournaments. As you earn GPs your rank will rise from E all the way up to A. After that, you will move up to the next tournament level and start back down at E again. This continues through four levels of tournaments. Most PA players here fall in the G3 or G2 rankings. You can earn GPs by defeating other players in tournaments. When you defeat someone, you earn their current GPs in the form of Championship Points (CP). When you finish the tournament, your earned CPs are converted into GPs and added to your total.

For an extremely detailed breakdown of how Championship mode works, visit this thread at shoryuken.com. Credit goes to our very own forum poster Aumni for compiling all the data.

PC 'Mod'ness!
To unlock everything on the PC including titles, colors, taunts, icons, and characters, please follow this link: PC Unlocks

The PC version of Street Fighter IV has already begun being hacked and modded for humorous results. Check out some of these videos to see move sets being swapped between characters or completely different character models being created. Insane stuff.

The best moveset swap.

This is a close contender though.

And some of them manage to not warp the face too badly.

Penny Arcade Tournaments
I have been running tournaments for the members of the PA forums here for a little while now. These tournaments are all meant for casual, friendly matches with bragging rights and an occasional belt image going to the winner. The tournaments come in a variety of flavors from single elimination, team matches, a suicide tournament (requires you to win with more than one character), and our very own Street Fighter League.

If you are interested in getting involved, take a look at the official thread found here.

Controllers
The MadCatz Fightpad ($40)
ps3-sfiv-fightpad-chun-li-490.jpg
Based off the Sega Saturn controller it features a nice floatly D-Pad and a 6 face button set-up along with turbo options. Great for those who want to be good but don't want to break the bank either.

The Fight Stick (PS3 $70, 360 $80)
51CsxvLuibL._AA280_.jpg
The standard fight stick featuring a eight button layout with start and back on the side. Has turbo options as well as a disabler so you don't accidentally hit the home button during a fight. Is easily customizable and a fine entry stick.

The Tournament Fight Stick ($150)
41Hc2-YUzRL._AA280_.jpg
This super fancy one is literally all the parts straight from the original arcade cabinet at a hefty 6lbs. It has all the features from the standard plus extras including being able to screw it right to a table.

As an owner of both the Fightpad and the Tournament stick, I can completely vouch for how rock solid they are to use. Your game will get a noticeable jump in performance from the ease of pulling off moves with controllers. If you're serious about getting better and competing in Street Fighter IV, I'd highly recommend picking up whichever controller your budget will allow for.

You can always make your own controller or purchase a custom stick. Check out Shoryuken's tech forum for more information.

Also, don't forget to visit our sister thread for the game Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD Remix (or HDR for short). HDR plays very much like SF4 and is a lot of fun. At only $15, I'd highly recommend picking it up and giving it a whirl. You can find the thread here.

Did you know?
-360 motions done by doing f,df,d,db,b,ub,u+p/k or b,db,d,df,f,uf,u+p/k instead of an actual 360 degree motion.
-Any half-circle motions (f, df, d, db, b for example) can be done by pressing df, b+p/k. This makes doing moves like Honda's Ochio throw (df, b+p) or Chun Li's Hazan Shu (df, b+k) much easier to pull off.
-Any dragon punch motion (f, d, df+p/k) can be done by pressing df, df+p/k. Use this to pull off backwards teleports with M.Bison and go right into his ultra combo.
-Going to ub instead of up on d/u charge moves allows you to retain your charge, which is useful for comboing into EX moves/Supers/Ultras.
-Reversals attacks can break armored moves.
-Charges moves done b,f,b+p/k to allow you to charge faster.
-Multi tap moves activate on fifth hit (Chun Li's lightning leg or E.Honda's hundred hand are good examples). You can use this to activate a certain strength of the move by making the level you want the fifth button press.
-More hits does not always mean more damage. There is a damage scaling feature in SF4 that makes each additional hit in a combo do less and less damage. Say an Super fireball from Ryu does 1/3 off your health normally. If he tacks the same super onto the end of a long combo, the damage reduction will cause it to do a lot less. Because of this, a simple 3 hit combo could do the same damage as a flashier 20+ hit combo.
-When using a Focus attack or a move with armor, you can absorb one hit and not be stunned. The damage you receive from the move will be represented as gray on your health bar and will recover over time as long as you don't get hit.
-Ultra combos do more damage depending on how full the revenge meter is.
-The revenge meter only fills up when you take damage. You can use the Focus Attack to absorb fireballs to fill up the meter, just make sure to not get hit while your life restores.
-Cammy's holligan throw can be avoided by simply ducking.
-Cammy can instant air cannon strike by doing d,db,b,uf+k or d,db,b,ub/u/uf+2k for EX-Cannon strike.
-Dan is the only character in the game who can cancel his Super into his Ultra.
-Dhalsim can instant air teleport f,d,df,f,uf+3P or 3K (reverse motions for backwards teleport)
-Abel's command grab beats throws, but is vulnerable to attacks. His EX-command grab beats attacks (including some get up moves), but is vulnerable to other throws.
-Blanka can hop forward by pressing df+KKK, then unleash the anti-air Blanka ball by pressing uf, u, or ub+k.
-Blanka's Ultra has to be blocked low, high, then either high or low.
-Blanka's Ultra vulnerable on the way down after the initial leap up.
-Blanka can control himself left and right during his EX-Rainbow ball.
-Akuma's Raging Demon last input can be combined into f/b+lk+fp.
-Guile/Vega Super/Ultra can be done by doing db,f,df,d,db,b,ub+K (KKK).
-M.Bison can do a special move or ultra out of a teleport by doing it this way: b,db,b,db+3k/3p. Doing the teleport this way maintains his charge.
-Vega can throw away his claw by doing f,d,df+any p. Doing this motion with 2 punches will cause him to throw off his mask and lose 2 bars of EX meter. This is generally only done to show off.
-If Vega loses his mask, he takes more damage until he recovers it. On the plus side, he does more damage while it's off.

    Mm, that new thread smell.

And just a reminder for everyone, I do have a thread set-up for tomorrow's TvC release here just so we're not talking over each other with any possible SUPER announcements and trying to share TvC friend codes.

I think I'm going to try my hand at building a custom arcade stick for SF4 soon. So many decisions to make from a layout and design perspective, I'll probably model it after one of the high end joysticks that you can buy in stores. What sticks do people really like?

I built a stick with an american-style Happ parts, but I would advise going full japanese parts. So much better.

Madcatz TE is basically exactly what people want at this point.
    - Japanese layout
    - Sanwa buttons/stick
    - Start/Select button aren't near the other buttons
    - Cord compartment ( This thing is genius)

If it makes you feel better the SE stick originally shipped with a loose washer that would eat up the stick switches.

    Ah, comfort zone!

Hurm, I did just realized that if I built my own stick I probably wouldn't be able to make my mic plug into it, which is actually a really big deal for me, playing mostly online. Maybe I will just suck it up and save up for a TE.

Not true. Well, probably not true. The PCB that you're using will have a jack built in, and you can get a microphone jack extender to put anywhere on your stick.

I don't have the chatpad but it looks inexpensive enough that I'd consider picking it up, possibly.

Obviously I should just be really slick and build the wireless headset into it somehow.

This design works for me. However, it's wood instead of metal which makes it taller than the fightsticks, and it's made with Happ parts instead of Sanwa.

Very nice looking Sabremau, very clean asthetic. I like it. I'd personally go for different parts (I suck with bat sticks for whatever reason), but, I've definitely been considering something pretty minimalistic. Wood is also going to be my material of choice.

I've been dreaming about making an arcade cabinet for fighting games, after seeing some guys finished project online, but it would probably be better to start small. :P Might just make building a fightstick as a summer project.

For those who've built a fightstick already, did it end up costing a fair bit less than say a TE?

It comes with a little dongle that works for a regular headset - and a wireless will work regardless anyway.

You know... with these 3D models on a 2D plane thing they got going...

Don't you think they could have the fighters turned around on the right side? Instead of just mirroring them?

They do turn around, they just switch between right and left handed stances. Check Sakura's knee bandage on her alternate costume.

It's something about making sure the frame-data/hitboxes/etc is identical regardless of side. SO everyone in Street Fighter is left or right handed depending on which side they are on.

Its also done so that everyone is always turned towards the camera, to make it easier to see whats going on.

It's a holdover from sprite models. They just kind look weird otherwise, and unlike 3D fighters, there is no gameplay reason for them to have a different stance depending on which direction they're facing.

Wasn't there something in the 3D fighters (VF/Tekken) that some attacks had different properties depending on if you were in open or closed stances with respect to your opponent?

Virtua Fighter has a stance system. Depending on which foot they're leading with, a character will throw their attacks from a different angle. You can affect a stance switch by dashing, though characters like Jacky can do it with specific inputs. This is most important when considering the direction to dodge versus a specific move. If it's a kick and they're leading with their left (facing the camera, called open stance), they'll throw the kick with their right, so you need to dodge to the left. If they're leading with the right (back to the camera, called closed stance) then they'll do the opposite, obviously. It can also slightly alter some hitboxes, if I remember correctly, and the same holds for most punches.

In Tekken it's not that important, since dodging works differently and the attacks are dependent on the limbs, so you'll always kick with your left leg if you hit 3, where in Virtua Fighter you kick with the leg that isn't leading.

In Soul Calibur they don't lead off with different feet because they're holding weapons in their good hands and it wouldn't make much sense for them to switch. But the same principle from VF applies: they'll be swinging their swords from a different direction depending on which way they're facing, and you have to step accordingly.

Yeah in VF some combos will only land if you were open stance and some will only land if you are closed stance. Some will land regardless, but sometimes the most damaging combo off of a certain launcher only works open or closed.

    It was really annoying.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
