Alt thread title: Cheapass games for Brokeass people
Deadspace had a pretty good review on Giantbomb. I saw that it's a platinum hit, which means I can get it for $20. And I just so happen to have a $20 giftcard from my birthday. Is there any replay value to it? Like some weapon unlocks or maybe a...
...sweet tuxedo
I know ME2 is coming out today, but damned if I can afford it right now.
What other cheapass (<$20) games would you dudes recommend?
It's weird. I was all hyped up about it when it came out, then I forgot about it, and it seemed like people stopped talking about it. Does it have any staying power?
I played through it like 4 or 5 times just because It was awesome.

I'm sorta playing through Dead Space right now.
It's pretty good but I just can't really sit down and play it for hours upon hours. Usually because a roommate is around and wants the lights on or is playing music in the room and I can't get into a dark and tense game with that going on.
Also fuck those little tiny things that swarm you.

Also, also.
This game actually has a shit-ton of DLC. Has anybody even tried any of it? Is it worth it?

dead space is an excellent game and is my benchmark for how you make a modern action horror game

Yeah, I didn't see anything that added story elements. If it had been one pack for some of the prices listed I may have bitten, but as is I just have no idea which of the "stronger weapons and better armor!" packs is actually strongest and best.
I disregarded Dead Space for so long because I thought it was just a generic shooter, then when I finally played it I really really enjoyed it. The story is good, if a little contrived, but the atmosphere is great, missions are interesting and it's nicely designed.
Yeah I rented it, I played it through twice just because I didnt bother exploring all that much away form the main missions etc and didn't try out the other weapons very much.
On my second play through I definitely ran through it a little more, wasn't so cautious etc.
Having the upgraded weapons and Lvl 6 suit from the beginning helped in that department too!
excellent game, stayed scary even on my 4/5th playthrough
two things though;
-pulse rifle sucks so much ass it's unreal, expect to cycling weapons a lot depending on what ammo you have
-try and play it on a decent display with high resolution, before I switched to a hd thingy I could barely read the the little info logs, and they add a huge amount of atmosphere to the game.
I rented Dead Space and didn't get to finish it before I had to take it back but it was hella fun and pretty scary
With games like that I tend to hit a period where I am perpetually low on ammo and health and always getting my ass kicked, an that's where I was when I stopped playing
Often this will be followed by a sudden explosion of money and supplies so I wish I'd been able to keep it a little longer
If you get it for PC I would perhaps be willing to play sometimes
but if you're getting it for single player, I'd recommend Resident evil 4 or 5 if you can

Steam
If you want to experience everything a single time then you'd probably want 3 playthroughs.
If you do get it play on hard.
Looking forward to Dead Space 2 now!
but mass effect 2 is about to come to me

I've only played Dead space for a few hours, but I liked it. Same thing with Mass Effect 1, played like 2 hours, but it's fun.
Fable 2 should be near $20 by now, and it was a blast.
Is Battlefield Bad Company 1 worth getting? I see all these awesome things about 2, but I've never tried 1... should I?
although fuck that one part during the last boss
you know which part

This is how I did it and I can tell you that it was great and added bonus I get to die a little younger than I might have otherwise.
Fuck yes. More bang for your buck!
Also, I did not know about that Best Buy sale. I am definitely heading there after work.
Pretty much this. I never finished it on Hard, but I got everything else. Now that last one haunts me.

The game was great though, I really liked playing it.
They did a great job of making it scary and ominous as hell
