I just snagged a barely used 80gb PS3 (mostly for blu-ray and netflix instant streaming access) ... and I was wondering ... what would be the top five must have PS3 games? I'm planning to get Bioshock 2 as soon as it comes out ... but what other games are totally must have? Why?
I'm terribad at using the analog sticks to aim a gun, so Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 are probably not great recommendations ... unless at it's possible to go from terribad to good in aiming with those things.
Uncharted 1 & 2
Metal Gear Solid 4 (but only must-have if you are a MGS fan)
Flower (Playstation Network game)
The God of War Collection (really just PS2 games that were made pretty, but they are fantastic and will set you up for God of War III)
Batman: Arkham Asylum (if you haven't played it on another platform)
inFamous
Also: The Ratchet & Clank games, inFamous, Uncharted 1 & 2. Alot of people will come in shouting about Valkyria Chronicles, but your enjoyment of it will be directly related to how much of a weeaboo you are.
Being a Weeaboo is not necessary to enjoy Valkyria Chronicles. BUT being a strategy fan is.
I am a huge strategy fan. I find the strategy in VC to be not terribly complex or difficult, which leaves the story to make up the difference. And, me not being a weeaboo...
The graphics are a sight to behold, I can give it that. But the game itself is really nothing to write home about unless you like anime.

Personally I think Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle are among the best games evar and I was a bit disappointed with VC. The only factor that matters into getting experience points is how quick you finish the map. Strategy, not so much. And the weeaboo factor here is insane. Way to much for me, and I love the final fantasy series on PSX so I'm pretty used to it. I quit playing after a while but I'm hoping to pick it up a rainy day. It's a good game but it's not for everyone. I really don't want to bash it but it's got an almost fanatical crowd advocating it on these boards. I'm just giving the other side's view.
And to recommend games: GTAIV is good and I'm going to chime in with the Uncharted crowd.

Valkyria Chronicles is definitely on the must try list; try it before you decide you don't like it. What VC does do however is make me hope that GW will license the Blitz system from Sega to do some 40k stuff; substitute Alicia for a Space Marine and move the venue from Europe to a space hulk and you've got a pretty good game.
Fat Princess is another one to try. The novelty of it doesn't last for long but you need to play it at least until you hear someone yell "Fracking toaster!" while cleaving their enemies in half.
I'll always come to threads like this to reco WipeoutHD demo at least.
Yes, yes, yes. Easily the best looking game on the system, and fastest racing game series you can play. Steep learning curve, but an amazing ride, especially for the price.

I love anime, and I still found the story/characters to be occasionally grating. The gameplay is what really sold it for me.
Throwing in some more love for Uncharted 1 and 2. Easily the best games on PS3 to date.
I also happen to love "Armored Core 4" and "Armored Core 4:Answer", but that might be just me. I'm convinced that FromSoftware just continually churns out AC games for my own personal amusement, as nobody I know ever buys them.
If you like Star Wars, the Force Unleashed is pretty fun. Might want to try before you buy, as some folks did not like it even a smidgen.
Do you like Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Both are readily available and awesome!
I am gonna chime in on Demon's Souls being a must have. It really is amazing. I haven't put a lot of time into it, but that's because it's so damn hard. But it legitly makes you EARN your victories and it really isn't cheap when it kills you, you just aren't good enough haha.
In addition, gotta recommend Little Big Planet. Especially play this one if you have someone else to play with as well. It is so much fun. Plus there are tons of user generated levels even after you beat the main story.
Dragon Age: Origins, if you're into RPGs at all. It's very similar game play style to Baldur's Gate 2 if you ever played that. I seriously have put over 50 hours in and I cannot stop playing this game. Highly recommend it.
Oh if you haven't played God of War 1 & 2 - I would pick up the God of War Collection. It was pretty cheap, $40 I think? And you get both games, both of which are pretty damn awesome. Plus there is God of War 3 coming out in March so good way to catch up.
Singstar - great fun party game
Little Big Planet
GT Prologue (Do not believe the crap about you paying for a demo. It may not be a big game but certainly more than a demo plus it comes cheap)
Wipeout HD
Ratchet & Clank - get both
Flower - even your mom will love it.
Motorstorm - great fun
Metal Gear Solid 4
Uncharted + Uncharted 2
Sorry - I could not stick with only five but I did try to avoid shooters. I f you into those some more then there some rather nice ones.
I hate shooters and I enjoyed Uncharted 2 immensely. It's mostly platforming and story, and the gun sections are fairly forgiving on normal difficulty. It's one of the only current gen games I would put in my list of favourite games ever.
Uncharted 1
Uncharted 2
Valkeria Chronicles
Little Big Planet (Though for some reason I am playing the PSP version way more then the PS3 version)
MAG - I am seriously digging MAG
I have braid on steam on my PC already ... phenomenal game.
The list of suggestions is awesome... trying to distill it down a bit...
WipeoutHD
Ratchet and Clank (Both)
God of War collection
Dragon age
Uncharted
Seemed to be the most frequent ones... I wanted to limit it mostly because of how little time I actually have with classes tying me up on campus like 50 hours a week. Bioshock 2 is already going to probably have a bad effect on my grades heh.
By all means keep the suggestions coming ... much appreciated.

If you're taking response frequency into account, I'd put in Demon's Souls. I just didn't want to waste screen real estate suggesting stuff that had already been said. That game changed my view of what a good game is. It's definitely not for everyone, but you'd be doing yourself a favour to at least rent it. Also, Valkyria Chronicles can be a little over the top with anime cliches at times, but the majority of the game is fantastic. The gameplay is very fun, the art is incredible, and the story is thoughtful.

because its a pretty fun game if you have the ability to not take things seriously?
Finding the game part boring and the story part dumb is not taking it seriously.
Whats the point of shitting on other peoples suggestions? It's not like this is a joke suggestion or something, there's tonnes of people who like VC, myself included.
God of War Collection (wife wasn't pleased with the naked chicks I'm afraid)
WipeoutHD
Uncharted 2
Modern Warfare 2 (got Uncharted 2 and MW2 from someone I know online for teh cheap)
Bioshock 2 limited
This will keep me busy forever.
By the way ... the ratchet and clank that you can download on the playstation store ... is that what ya'll were reccomending?
Also ... feel free to friend me and I'd love to play Wipeout or Bioshock 2 multiplayer with folks from here. (not so much MW2, I'm terribad)

It is actually a crime in most countries to own a PS3 and not at least one R&C game. You don't want to go to jail, do you?

Can't wait to beat GoW so I can (finally) play Arkham Asylum.

Unless you already have it for the 360 (and a 360).
