The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I recently acquired a 23" Apple Cinema Display, which is unfortunately very prone to image persistence! If I make the mistake of leaving my IM window in the same spot for more than 30 minutes, I'll notice it'll persist if I put a single large dark color window over top of it. At first I thought I was just going nuts, and that my browser was semi-transparent! It seems to be quick to fade too though, which is OK. After 5 or 10 minutes, the effect is no longer noticeable.
The monitor was used, and a gift, so I can't really replace it. Are there any preventative measures I haven't heard of to take steps against this? Like a good cast-iron pan must be seasoned, am I forgetting to "season" my high-end LCD somehow? (I obey all the normal rules--screensaver kicks in after 5 minutes, I turn the screen off whenever I leave the room, etc).
a quick google search yields several results ranging from:
"it's done"
to
"hope you got apple care"
a little more digging says that the problem is the pixels holding a residual charge and that unplugging the monitor for several days can reduce the effects, the monitor is not likely repairable by user.
