I'm working on a web design for an employer. I would like something like they have http://www.winchesterguns.com/ here but of course I don't want to steal it. I'm just wondering what you guys would call the design of that background. I've done searches for 'rough metal' 'gunmetal' 'damaged metal' and nothing as really turned up anything. I'm sure there is a term for this art work design. They just refer to it as bgtexture if I view the source of that image.
Yeah I did brushed steel and got a lot of zippo's with scratches on them, and in GIS no matter what search you do with the word metal you get lots of metal band posters and graphics, which while cool, do not help me in the least.
If you have access to Photoshop you can find things to generate that kind of texture at the actionxchange, for instance here's a search for brushed metal

Brushed metal?
It looks like steel that has been brushed with a brillo pad. I think there is a term for it, but I don't know it.
Here's a good free texture site with some nice beat up metal images you can play with:
http://cgtextures.com/ (go to the metal section)
If you want to try your hand with photoshop yourself, try looking up some metal-texture tutorials or grunge brush sets.
