I remember an extremely fun arcade game that was a mix of shooting and driving. One player would drive the car, and the other would use the lightgun. The style was very cartoony. The first level was a city where you would fight the mafia, and in one of the later levels the boss is a monster truck. That's about all of the info I can provide.
Oh, if only I had the time to double check! Curses, at least in my heart I was thinking of the right one. Great game, spent many quarters on it. Rarely saw it around.
Yes it is, definitely one of Namco's most fun arcade titles. Best way to play was with the driver JUST driving, one person using the driver's lightgun and a third person hanging off the side of the cabinet using the right gun.
Also gets points for having hilariously awkward voice overs and being yet another "Fuck man we totally just lost the Lethal Weapon license how the hell do we release this?" game.

Ideally you'd have three people with Wiimotes to represent a vehicle overloaded with people brandishing firearms.

I used to play this with me driving and my friend dual wielding (and cackling like a lunatic the whole while)
Driving through shopping malls never got old. Didn't you smash through pizza carts or something, and slices of pizza slid down your windscreen?
I find that difficult to believe because at the beginning of EVERY level, your windshield got shot out by the level's boss. (Hence the reason for the chase)

Maybe it just flew at you?
Hmm yes, good point. And the fact you no longer have a windscreen is what allows you to shoot back with such recklessness...
I guess my memory must have merged the flying pizza slices from this game with the 'alien guts sliding down the screen' effect from Space Gun or something.

This game sounds awesome! I yearned for years for a game where one person drove the car, and another player fired the gun. Only finally got to do it in the Warthog, the only high spot to the rather vapid Halo. Lightguns are more my thing though, and I'd be the grinning maniac dual wielding while someone else drives. I've always loved spunking my money by dual wielding in arcade lightgun games.
But you could shake someone off of the bonnet and then run them over? That is class. Sorry that I missed this one.

To be honest, the game was fun, but this was in the early-mid 90s.
And it was a little difficult to duel wield.
See, the guns were on a stock (this Silent Scope) as opposed to on a cord.
It limited the gun's mobility but it didin't take away from the fun much.
Okay, I was just going to start a "name the game" thread, but since this one's around, I felt like jacking it.
Platform: SNES, may have had previous games in the series on earlier platforms (NES, Amiga, possibly)
Gameplay: Non-scrolling action game, colored balls bounce around the screen, which you are supposed to shoot with your harpoon gun. A rope is trailing the harpoon, and when the balls make contact with it, they divide into smaller pieces and eventually disappear once you hit the smallest ones (Ã la Asteroids). I'm not sure if you could jump around, but I don't think that was possible. There may have been a two-player mode as well.

Buster Brothers.

I've got Realms of the Haunting, I went through a brief phase of liking games with FMV. I never actually completed it although it did used to freak me out.
Other games I played around that time:
Ripper - With more fucking swearing than you can fucking shake a big fucking stick at. Oh and Christopher Walken. And a few other famous people. And Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. In fact I really really fucking enjoyed this game. Except it came on about 6 cds
Angel Devoid - I'd never heard of it till I spotted it in a shop. Completed it on the day I bought it but still very very fun.
Phantasmagoria - Hahahaha. Yeah.
11th Hour - I was one of few who hadn't played 7th Guest. This game entertained me despite just being "find the object". Oh and you could get clues to each one which basically told you the answer.
Fun FMV filled times.
And now back to whatever we were talking about!
(Oh and for anyone looking for a driving/shooting game, pick up the ps2 starsky and hutch, or the xbox but I found ps2 light guns to work better)
(Oh and year, that game was Super Pang in the UK. It was awesome).
That reminds me, there was one arcade title that I used to love, anyone recognize this?
It was an on-rails shooter, and if I recall, your character were essentially Ghost Busters rip offs. You encountered a huge assortment of monsters from ghosts to what I vaguely recall as a giant octopus or squid attacking a ship? I remember loving it at the time since Ghost Busters was pretty much the in-thing.

Beast Busters? I worked at an arcade, and we had this. Three big machine guns bolted to the machines, sorta purpleish I think. The Neo Geo Pocket Cardfighters game talkes about the sequel, BB : Dark Arms like five times.
People were talking about games with bad FMV...what was the game from that era/style where people were turned into butterflies and captured in a mansion...?

Did it have a little "scope" on top of your gun that you would use to see your laser? (By reflecting a light off the glass) and made by Sega?
As for the Butterflies thing, all I remember is that it was on Sega CD.

Edit: I'd elaborate on the awesomeness (both players had guns) but I have to go to class.

Awesome Awesome game.
Now if I could only find one...
I challenge you to an ace combat duel.
Is that the one that had the level where you drove through a mall, smashing through kiosks? If so, I love that fucking game.
Also gets points for having hilariously awkward voice overs and being yet another "Fuck man we totally just lost the Lethal Weapon license how the hell do we release this?" game.
It would be sort of like Rayman's rail shooter levels.

It's games like this that make me hope for the shopping channel to start carrying arcade games.

I recall a cord...but it's been a while, so I could be gravely mistaken.

Buster Bros. didn't ring any bells, so I guess the European version was called Super Pang.
The Pang family tree in all its glory. Fascinating, eh what?
whats the name of the PC FPS where you are loose in a mansion killing demons
it is like an early version of undying, we are talking the days of sprites and such.
all i remember is it had real life cutscenes and in the end you went insane and were carted away.
?
at first i thought it was shivers, but its not shivers, nor is it sigil, but it is sigil meets undying meets doom?

Wow, I still have that game on my old PC. It doesn't load right anymore, but it's on there. Came out in 1996, according to my manual.
