Cutting pdf in half

So I am a student at college and I have a lot of readings in pdf form. I can just print them off or read them on my computer screen, but I have a lot of readings. I just got a Nook and would like to try reading them on that. Pretty much everything I have to read is scanned from books, so there are two pages on every page of the pdf file. That obviously doesn't work out so well because slapping that on the nook makes it too small.
What I need to be able to do is split each page right down the middle, and make it so one page of reading is one page in the pdf file, so it is readable in the Nook. There is a program called PDF cut that does this, but it is $27. Is there any other program that will do this for free or can I do this with Adobe Acrobat Pro? I can get that for free from the university, but the download link is slow as hell so I haven't had the chance to see if I can do it with that yet.
Correct, you can do this. But doesn't that leave you with a PDF full of either odd or even pages only? Wouldn't you have to do this to two documents (one with odd pages and one with even) and then assemble them?
If there's an automated way to do this in Acrobat Pro I'd like to know since since I've had to do this before and I get the feeling I did it the hard way.
So if my PDF's often come as scans of books, with two pages to a .. page. Is there going to be any easy way to split those in half so I can actually read one page at a time?
look up a piece of software called Quite Imposing. It's a plugin for Acrobat that lets you crop / split / 2 or 4 up, and a whole bunch of other great stuff.

Thank you.
