Sort of.

Due to circumstances that are not relevant, I bought a 1990 Acura Legend L today for one thousand dollars. It runs beautifully, and it is pretty awesome overall. Mechanically, everything is great.

In the cabin, however, is a measly cassette player with two weak speakers in the back. I spend sometimes hours a day commuting, so this is unacceptable.

I turn to you, H/A, to help me find a good stereo, preferably with some speakers. Flash doesn't really matter to me, so long as it works well.

My budget is pretty low...roughly one hundred dollars to be exact (poor college student yay).

Also, any good alarm systems? I'm definitely going to need one for this car. (One hundred dollar budget does not apply to alarm system, but please be reasonable).

Thanks!

I hate you and you hate me.

    Figure out your speaker size.

    Look on craigslist.

Even a cheapo head unit will cost ~$100 just to get a CD player and an auxillary port. You can usually find speakers and even a sub cheap on craigslist.

I like VIPER alarm systems. The Legend was a cool car...my brother had one for a long time.

Yeah the car seems pretty damn solid.

Any brands you would recommend? I'm wary of craigslist because I want someone to install it, a service I could presumably only find at a big chain.

I always Reccomend Kenwoods (excelon's).. Have had half a dozen of em over the years, never had a problem with any of them.

As far as installing it.. Do it yourself.. they make Harnesses that all you have to do is match the colors on the stereo to the harness.. then plug that harness into the factory radio harness.
You can get these for about $20 at most places..

Sadly, even on craigslist $100 isn't going to get you much though. Maybe a radio with a tape deck and 2 speakers...
    Save up :)

In my VERY brief experience in this field, i've found the stereo itself is the easy part. I picked up a stereo and set of speakers at best buy for about $80. When they told me later that day that i would need a wiring harness, antenna adapter, and a dashboard adapter or what ever it was called, i about doubled the price. I ended up returning it sticking with my mp3 player and an old tape adapter.

Yeah, for a slightly larger budget you can do some decent things, especialy in a car like an Acura.
