Moving to Albany NY - Apartment Info

So I picked up a job in the Albany area of New York. While the company I was hired by has giving me a list of apartment complexes in the area I am looking for other people input on what parts of town I should avoid renting in.

I have ~3 weeks to find an apartment, and I don't even live in the USA. So any help on where to rent would be very nice.

    Right, so my friend who lived in Albany is telling me that the best place she lived was near Lark St. She liked it because it was just a walk from a bunch of good bars, plus a mall that was maybe a two minute drive (are you planning on bringing a car?)
