So, I'd like to begin a collection of fighting movies, but I'd like to keep them realistic. I'd like to keep wire fighting and pseudo magic to a minimum, but I realize I'm being too specific. Any awesome movies from any genres or countries. I will award [imaginary currency].
I recognize that "fighting" extends from the hands and feet to the guns and all that.
This should probably be moved to Help and Advice
"I am the night, I am Batman!"
"I'm the god damned Lich King!!"
i thought the end of redbelt was terrible- like, after
he beats the dude's ass, as he's being awarded the belt
it was so disjointed and confusing
It does shit the bed a little in the lead-up the climax where
The Operative is taking down the entire security team, I mean come on
but the actual climax made sense from him being a fighter rather then an entertainer.
EDIT also has some of the most realistic fights I've seen on the screen recently, because
When he fights the two guys in the bar, he still ends up wounded, none of this usual bullshit about people effortlessly beating up a hundred people at once
Time and Tide is another good one, caught it on the CBC a couple years back at like 4AM. The cinematography was pretty stylish, and the plot is solid (strange, but solid.)
Plus the main character has the same penchant for pocketing other people's lighters that I do.
Man, pretty much any early jackie chan movie. Protip: If the country it was filmed in has Health and Safety Laws - give it a miss.
Fist of Legend - Jet Li.
The Defender - Tony Jaa
The Bourne Series
The Transporter (the 1st one - but leave your brain somewhere safe)
Taken - Liam Neeson
Anything by Steven Segal
The Legend of the Drunken Master (Drunken Master 2) is the best Jackie Chan movie, by far, for pure fighting. Almost no plot, just wall to wall action, with not a wire to be found.
Throwdown is a wonderful Johnnie To movie from a few years back. It's about judo fighters, and the fighting is very intense. But it's more of a character piece. Still very worth watching.
Flashpoint is a badass Donnie Yen movie from a couple years back. The action scenes are very nice, and only a couple of gun fights are kind of cartoony. If you've played a fair bit of CS then you may get a chuckle. The fighting has a lot of MMA-style takedowns in it, but manages not to be fucking boring. Actually, the final fight is one of the most brutal I've ever seen.

Personally, I prefer SPL over Flashpoint as far as recent movies starring Donnie Yen. Ip Man and Dragon Tiger Gate are entertaining as well for entirely different reasons. Also, can't forget Shanghai Knights!

Not what you might think, guns instead of hands and/or feet.

(One of these is a trap)
Seven Samurai has great showdowns, plus all the other Kurosawa goodness that comes with it.

Seriously though, Jackie Chan is a legend.
