My PS2 no longer shows my hard drive and it won't read PS2 memory cards. It reads my PS1 memory card, but that doesn't do me any good.
Does anybody know how to fix this? Nothing happened while in game, I just turned it on last night and could access either one.
I know it's outdated, but I don't have the cash right now to get a PS3.
It's been made abundantly clear that Ten O'Clock is time for Rainbow Six. It is not time for other games! You might think that it is, but it isn't. Don't show up at 10:05! That's not when it is. It is earlier.
unless you play FFXI... you could always wait till the PS3 which is supposed to get firmware updates to allow games that used the PS2 HDD to use ITS HDD

That update for the PS3 is in fact now available for download in the Playstation Store, for what it's worth

the one that allows you to install FFXI and the handful of other games to its HDD?

Correct. It's an item called "PS2 System Data" in the Playstation Store. It's a few megabytes, and you download it, and then the games work.

How much do used PS2's go for at GameStop/EB? My brother just pulled mine off his dresser and after 6 long years it's finally dead (lol sony sucks). I'm a third through FF12, and I'm going through withdrawal.
I could go on for quite a while about how many functions the PS2 HDD has, but we'll save that for another time.
Has the NA come loose at all? You've got it screwed in all the way, right? The HDD utilities disc that came with the FFXI bundle has some decent error-checking programs on it, you might try seeing if it can recognise the HDD.

I'd personally be a little afraid to buy a used PS2 or PSTwo from a place like EBstop. If these things are as 'fragile' as they seem to be, I'd be a little wary of the ones used and traded in by other people.. Meh well. I don't trust other people with my electronics.. but neither would you if you knew my friends and saw how they treat their stuff.
Functions of the HDD? Can you list the big ones? I'm genuinely curious.

By using exploits and/or certain software, you can store your games on the HDD and run them from there for ease of access and generally faster load times. Not every game works, but most do.
Alternatively, I've heard that the software that comes with the network/HDD adapter (or maybe with the Sony HDD itself?) allows you to store gamesaves on the HDD, which is also kind of handy.
Does anyone know where to get a copy of the Network adapter disk? I was given a used PS2 w/network adapter and HDD addon, but I can't setup the network adapter. :x No PS2 online goodness for me.

Duck was a neutral party, so he brought the ultimatum to the cows.
No, I don't still play FFXI, that was the most time consuming MMORPG ever, just for the time it took to find parties and then a replacement when someone had to drop and forever to get a level.
I used my HDD to store saves from my PS2 memory card though and I have a shit load of PS2 games, which is probaly why I can't afford a PS3.
I only use Sony PS2 approved memory cards, nothing like madcatz or other third party memory cards.
My PS2 also won't read PS1 approved memory cards, but it will read PS1 third party memory cards, however I can't store PS2 data on these.
I don't know why it won't work, I don't want to buy another PS2 though, I prefer to save my money for one of the next gen consoles.
I don't think my PS2 is fragile, I've had it since '03 and I've taken it around the world with me on my deployments in the military. If it can survive sandstorms and heat in Iraq, concussion from mortars, and military travel then I don't have any complaints. I had actually sold my first one to upgrade back in '03 because my first one wouldn't play some of the games that came out.
To the guy who was looking for a network disc, I saw that Best buy was selling them and you could probaly order one from Sony if you need to.
Yeah, Disgaea 2 is great, I've been playing Makai Kingdom up until now and it's killing me that I can't play it now.

Thanks for all of your comments. I think I will just have a funeral ceremony for my PS2... which will probaly involved a baseball bat, some whiskey, and many, many bitter tears.

I had to get another PS2 when Disgaea 2 came out, as mine finally went under.

Also, fuck the HDD. You don't still play Final Fantasy online any more do you?

Or you could borrow the disc from a friend if you know someone who has it. Once it's installed it's installed.
