Microphone issues with mixer

This is indirect info from some friends, so my apologies for any vagueness.

We're on a Windows PC, and we're trying to record audio onto Audacity using a Behringher Podcastudio kit. The problem is that Audacity apparently doesn't want to record on the microphone. It can't tell there's a microphone hooked up, and acts like there's nothing there. Yes it's turned on, and they've fiddled with options trying to get it to appear.

Any suggestions? If you need more info I'll ask them.

I've never been able to figure out how to tell Audacity what the correct Microphone input is. I always thought it was a problem with OS X (which is what I'm using) but the only time I've tried it on Windows, it seemed to only recognize the default input. In other words, my experience with it is that it doesn't let you select the mic input, but rather defaults to what Windows believes is the default mic input.

Is the Podcastudio set up as the default audio device in Windows?

Did you select the mic in the dropdown in

Edit -> Preferences

Select 'Devices' on the left

look under "Recording" and see what's selected in the dropdown?

Here's what I got from them:

"Checked it and looked more into the problem. Apparently the microphone can't be set to record on the computer. It's there but not as a recordable device."
