Speed of Darkness
a Vampire: the Requiem chronicle on Google Wave
In the twenty-first century, globalization has affected each and every human on Planet Earth, whether or not they know it. As human populations merge in war or love or trade, so must their parasites and predators. The adjustment has been hard on many vampires. Humans nowadays are better connected and more numerous. Guns are more powerful and more accurate. Vampires had always been faster than humans; but suddenly, humans are leaving vampires behind.
Yet a few stay ahead of the curve—among them an energetic young vampire from Ürümqi named Muḥammad Wáng. With brilliant business acumen, he has constructed a shadow network of trustworthy subsidiaries that, for the first time in vampiric history, permits the Kindred to travel great distances swiftly and safely, by any means necessary. Need to be in Rio de Janeiro tomorrow night at twilight? He’ll get you there. Back in Kiev before dawn? He’ll make that happen, too. His services are safe, accessible, and affordable. His employees are efficient and discreet. Most conveniently (and most infuriatingly, to some), he has managed to maintain complete political detachment, as far as anyone can tell.
Rumor has it that Mr Wáng spends all his time on a high-tech or ensorcelled (what’s the difference?) airship high in the atmosphere, orbiting the earth at twice the speed of sound, faster than the dawn, so he can stay awake at every moment to do business. Skeptics dismiss that kind of talk as romance and legend. Fringe theorists hypothesize arcane systems of blood and machine that make it possible. No one is sure.
Wáng himself is incorruptible—on that much, everyone agrees. But near-unlimited access to travel has awakened less benign proclivities in other undead. Manipulative webs built of political, informational, and criminal power stretch further even than they used to. Rumors, better substantiated than those concerning Mr Wáng’s Mach 2 coffin, describe vampires who steal from city to city draining not only the blood, but also the strength of the humans and the undead who live there … whatever that means.
In Vampire: Speed of Darkness, you will play young vampires walking the line between ancient vampiric tradition and the unstoppable march of progress. For the first time, vampires who have never spoken to or known of each other have to decide whether to cooperate or compete, to seize webs of power that stretch across continents and oceans. Caught in between these forces, you’ll need strength of arms, quick wits, a silver tongue, and arcane might.
It’s an interesting time for a Requiem. See if you can keep up.
scenario For some time now I’ve wanted to run a tabletop role-playing game in which travel and culture clash play a major part. I want to populate the world with player- and non-player characters who are colorful, interesting, and dangerous in many different ways. Vampire games usually revolve around action and politics within a single metropolis, a tried and true premise; but I want to create a game world in which the players need not confine themselves that way unless it works for them. Learning what places, or connections between places, are optimal for your character’s quests and ambitions may end up becoming a great part of gameplay. The characters will need to decide as a party whether they want to establish themselves in one location, or stay on the move. Each option will have advantages and disadvantages. But regardless of the characters’ choices, many NPC’s will be well-traveled, bringing unexpected perspectives and powers to bear on whatever city they’re walking tonight. We will probably focus on six cities, namely New York, São Salvador de Bahia, Casablanca, Saint Petersburg, Mumbaī, and Shànghǎi.
style The most important element to Speed of Darkness’s play style is your sense of humor. Major influences on my play style include Neal Stephenson, Ishmael Reed, Kurosawa Akira, Ralph Ellison, Suda 51, and Aaron McGruder; but I hope for Speed of Darkness’s style to span a broad variety of genres. I’ll set up a game which the players’ and player characters’ choices can take them in or out of the genres in which they themselves are conversant or uncomfortable. I tend to have genres travel with characters like auras: crossing paths with an anachronistic PC or NPC swordsman will incline the game towards hack and slash, while an encounter with a mischievous hacker might drag the party (comfortably or uncomfortably) into cyberpunk. I want to keep a balance of different elements—physical, social, mental, mystical—so that characters of all stripes have a chance to shine, and to encounter something unfamiliar or scary. Also, I love martial arts, so there’s likely to be at least a little bit of martial arts action, for those of you who would care to have your buckles swashed.
deviations I have no plans for deviation from the canonical Vampire: the Requiem rules. I am happy to include any optional material my players or I find in the source material, although of course no one knows, nor needs to know, the entire canon cover to cover. I haven’t yet thought about crossing over with other World of Darkness game lines, but as we grow comfortable with our vampires, it might happen. Starting character level will creation plus a couple dozen XP. I’m pretty open as far as outlandish character concepts go; talk to me or ask for more details.
experience No experience whatsoever is necessary. If you’re a good writer and you’re enthusiastic, we can take care of everything else. I have never played or run Vampire: the Requiem before; you don’t need to have, either.
time and software I’ll accept some discussion on this point, but I was hoping to play on Google Wave. If you haven’t got Wave and you want in, we’ll get you an invitation—they move pretty quickly these days. The Wave format should allow us a balance between real-time and play-by-post gaming, although no specific time commitments will be necessary except as they happen to be convenient for you. As long as you’re enthusiastic and engaged in play, it doesn’t matter when you write.

"so wait, you're telling me that they throw these little guys in boiling water, they shriek, turn red, and die? that is the most metal thing I have ever heard. HIGHFIVE!"
In short, he was on the track to become a vampire hunter for the lord[or rather the vatican] when he was turned by a member of the Ordo Dracul as an experiment.
I was once a priest. John Neimah. But that life is behind me; years behind me. The Church taught me to listen to people, to express myself, and most importantly watch what people do and what they have. The Church sent me around the world. First as a missionary, then as a spy, and finally as a warrior. At each level i was more and more surprised at the sophistication and weaponry that existed underneath Rome. But it makes sense now. I was scheduled to start training with swords before I was turned, and I suppose that that was the point they were going to tell me that I was training to fight the supernatural forces of the world. I have sense tendered my resignation under the guise that I was just not cut out for that type of work anymore.
I doubt they believed me, I've always been a terrible liar, but my cover has held up well enough and they are more than happy to trade information or favors.
My first father was John Neiman. I do not know my second. I was reborn into undeath on X/Y/Z and quickly hailed into the Ordo Dracul. They believe that vampires have the ability to become more than the beast, to transcend, or be forgiven, to shed oneself of the curse. To me, transcending has nothing to do with that. God had given me 35 full years of wonderful life, and no matter how they had been cut short, there has been no greater gift to be given. If I am to receive more, it will not be for any deed or lack of misdeed that I have done, after all, nothing i could do or have done was worthy of the first gift. How could it be worthy of a second?"
But i cannot help but respect the depths to which they study the condition. The depth and breadth at which they study both the scientific and occult are amazing in their scope. So much so that had lead to my creation. I was born an experiment, my father(or mother) wished to remain anonymous in order to preserve the sanctity of the study. Though i can say that the group is probably not entirely double blind, there were quite a few others in the same boat, which may make it hard to deduce just who sired whom. This has left me with a great deal of leeway regarding the manner in which I prosecute my existence. And I quite like it
The Order seems to think that there are secrets out there that others are holding onto rather than sharing. Or maybe its the journey. Either way, they told me that the best way to see these was to be a tool. A man may die, but he will always pass on his tools. A man may be killed, but afterwords, the killer will pick up his tools. A good tool is never thrown away and it is never destroyed when it can be spared. My first patron was killed by my second and I was surprisingly unphased by this. My second no longer has any need of my services, though not of treachery.
As such i have become a free agent.

"My friends say that if my stories don't start off with 'See, there was this women' then they know I'm lying."
"See, there was this women, and she was to die for."
"When I was human, I was a street racer. It was in my blood. My human family were bootleggers in the Prohibition. And we have be autoracers since. I moved to New York City after high school. Hear the racing scene was awesome. There were fast cars and faster women there. So I build me a Dodge SR4 and raced it. I won some money and finally a car shop. Sold parts, let people fix their cars, whatever they wanted to make me a buck or two. Soon, I was the guy. I was always invited to the race, clubs, and hotel parties. But that changed two years ago."
"Her name was Mea. She said she was just racer too, from LA. I was at the Asylum NYC, some gothic club that's real hot in Santa Monica. I was having fun with the random girls who wanted to "congratulate" the winner of that nights races, when I saw her. She was sitting all alone in a corner booth. She was staring right at me and something just made me have to see her. As I got there, she said nothing but just started kissing me. And she was a damn good kisser, I feel like I wanted nothing but her kiss. It was water, sex, and heaven all wrapped together. It was almost to much. After that, I had to know more. We walked to her room upstairs. She didn't tell me much but I was cool with it. She was just that sexy."
"I didn't come out of that room. I lost my soul in her bed. And after it was all said and done,I was reborn. She sired me after drinking too much blood. It was the only way to save me, she said. I stayed with her for a few months, learning about being a vampire, the dark secrets of this new world. But, like all things, nothing can last forever, and it was no time before hunters found us. She died so I could get away."
"I've long since healed from that heartbreak. I have forever ahead of me, why wasted it on the dead. I've given up my name. I go by whatever I want. I'm Casanova, Romeo, Orlando Bloom. I'm leaving open veins and broken hearts."

Name of the car shop is Full Moon Whips.
Strating from nothing it takes 30XP to get to lvl 3 in a clan discipline.
With Cruac and Theban Sorcery you get one ritual as you buy the dot but if you want other rituals you have to purchase them separately.

I played years of oWoD (mostly Werewolf in a long running four year campaign, some Demon, some Vampire) but sadly no nWoD yet. I'd be happy to learn.
